After home birth how much. Childbirth per minute, or how long childbirth

To begin with, the maternity hospital, which is across the street from us, was closed for washing just in my PDD (estimated date of delivery), and I wanted to give birth by contract. We talked with the maternity hospital, we were sent, saying: "Suddenly you will not be in time before closing." And I was firmly convinced that we would succeed. Did not have time in the end, the female flair is not always reliable.

At the 38th week they sent me to save from the LCD in our hospital. Low water. They did not confirm there, but said that the child is very small for this period. And, perhaps, it is necessary to deliver and feed outside the mother ... Barely beat off. I asked to do an ultrasound again - and - oh, a miracle! - the child "grew" by 500 g. Girls, always double-check the tests, if all of a sudden! Let go for a walk.

After which we went to another hospital and consulted with a good doctor. She looked again at the ultrasound scan, performed a CT scan and released until April 2. She said to drink vitamins and build a lot of weight for the child. April 2 sent to CTG, released until April 9, if it does not start earlier. On the joys of April 2, they celebrated in a cafe. I feed the baby. There were no special harbingers. Although it was sometimes grabbing, and the baby sat very low at the end.

The story of childbirth: here it is ...

On April 5 I wake up at 8:30 and I understand that “here it is”: I feel the contractions directly. But first I don’t understand what the gap is. Well, maybe about 5-7 minutes. I woke up my husband, began to pack up and cook porridge for my daughter, called the doctor and parents to come. Already started to really grab so that hooked right on the fight.

I decided to go to the shower to wash myself. This was the wrong decision. Since the soul began to grasp very strongly in a minute. I realized that I must urgently go to the hospital. I shout to my husband to call an ambulance. He called an obstetric ambulance. I also scream for him to get me out of the bath - I myself can’t. And at this moment I understand that now the birth itself will already be! I started to pull right, and the contractions are very strong, and I can’t even breathe them out ... Here I was very scared. My husband somehow pulled me “ashore” - into the room on the bed in which the mother gave birth (that is, in a towel). The eldest child is spinning around us, does not understand what is the matter ...

Subconsciously, I already realized that I was giving birth at home, but what should I do in this situation? We were not preparing for home birth. And most importantly, I was afraid that the bubble might not burst - the first time I was pierced. You don’t really care about yourself anymore, but about the child - yes. I ask that the ambulance arrive as early as possible.

Home birth: on-site assistance

The doorbell rings, a young paramedic is standing on the threshold. He asks why I don’t get dressed.

- I cant! - I say through the blanket, which is clamped in my teeth, and I'm lying on the bed. She looked and realized that the bubble was already coming!

- Oh, don't push, don't push!

His hands are shaking, the midwife’s phone is dialing from an ordinary ambulance. She is being consulted on how to take birth ... She sent her husband down for the delivery package. My husband runs in shock, because he realized that I already give birth. And I relaxed a bit that at least some medic already exists. After a couple of fights, I realized that I could not help pushing, and literally in one effort the head came out, then the body.

Time 9:50 - less than 1.5 hours from the start of labor ... They put the baby on the stomach, quacks. Ufff, everything seems to be nothing. Somehow cut the umbilical cord. Then the mother-in-law had already come first, she took the eldest daughter, although she also needed water when she found out that another granddaughter was already born.

Then the midwife arrived with an ambulance. They did the procedure with the child, forced to yell as it should, wrapped in a diaper. Then I tried to give a breast, but at first she did not really understand.

Belated visit to the hospital

The aftermath does not come out. I’m not working so hard anymore. In short, they dressed me, took the bags, put me on a stretcher, wrapped the child with a blanket and went to the hospital. Not the one with whom the contract is (although also close). Contractions still go, the ambulance goes on bumps - not very pleasant sensations.

We arrived at the hospital, they are no longer in a hurry, they are walking around, filling up. The baby in her arms. While they were filling, the last one came out, they pressed on the stomach in the fight and everything is in order. And then I thought that they would clean.

Then everything was as it should be: they looked at the armchair, made one seam - the edge of the seam left after the first birth was torn. They looked at the baby - 2930 g, 46 cm - so they were worried about ultrasound about low weight, they also calculate the weight by height, as I understand it.

Now in the family we call baby Rocket.

I lay in the corridor almost until evening, as there was some kind of influx of women in labor. Oxytocin is now given to almost everyone after childbirth to reduce the uterus - this is cruel, since the uterus is already contracting.

And the money for the contract was returned. Less procedures.

Draw conclusions

Total: the second birth is much faster and much more painful. The first 5 hours went in 2013, but I wrestled with fights almost all night and at first I didn’t understand that it was them. And this time, nothing was foreshadowed in the evening, and in the morning it suddenly and swiftly began and started. It’s quite scary to give birth at home without proper medical care. So, multiparous, remember that if the first birth is fast enough, then the second can be even faster.

Specialist Comments

Elizaveta Novoselova, obstetrician-gynecologist, Moscow

Many of us have heard about childbirth that took place in a few hours, as in the story of our heroine. For expectant mothers, such a story about childbirth is often enthusiastic and arouses poorly concealed envy: some kind of lucky woman "was exhausted" in just 1.5 hours! However, in fact, it is not necessary to envy: so quickly passed childbirth often negatively affect the condition of the young mother and the health of the newborn. The result of the "rush" may be severe ruptures of the birth canal, massive uterine bleeding and, worst of all, severe complications for the baby, sometimes remaining for life, and sometimes life-threatening. This is not surprising: after all, fast and rapid childbirth is a complication that develops as a result of a violation of the normal regulation of labor. And although the story told by Xenia has a happy ending, her worries were completely justified.

The first births, proceeding without complications and medical stimulation, last an average of about 11-12 hours. From this time, about 8–9 hours are spent on the opening of the cervix, no more than 2 hours - for the period of expulsion of the fetus and no more than 30 minutes - for the birth of the afterbirth. Repeated births can be faster, especially if less than three years have passed since the first birth. However, more intense repeated births normally last 5–7 hours.

Births are called fast, lasting from 5 to 7 hours for the first time giving birth or from 3 to 5 hours for re-giving birth. Rapid birth in a nulliparous lasts less than 5 hours, with repeated births - less than 3 hours. Such a high speed of the birth process is provided by excessively strong and frequent contractions of the uterus, significantly exceeding the natural resistance of the tissues of the birth canal. As a result of this “birth pressure”, the fetus is literally pushed out of the mother’s body, not having time to adapt to abruptly changing environmental conditions and leaving significant damage to the birth canal of the mother.

When the contractions began to intensify, Ksenia decided to take a shower, but soon realized that this was the wrong decision. Warm water not only reduces pain from the contractions, but also stimulates blood circulation, which, with a tendency to a fast flow of labor, can only accelerate the process. It is possible to suspect a threat of too rapid development of labor in the case when, in the first 20-30 minutes, the frequency of contractions obviously increases. For example, with normal dynamics of labor, the first labor pain lasts about 10 seconds, alternating with an interval of usually at least 20 minutes, with a reduction in pause to 15 minutes in 1–1.5 hours. With the “accelerated option” within half an hour from the moment of the first bout, the interval will be reduced to 4-5 minutes, while the intensity of the bouts themselves will significantly increase. It is this kind of change of sensations that Ksenia describes.

The narrator was misled by the absence of pain during labor: she involuntarily compared her feelings with the beginning of the first birth and thought that it was too early to leave for the hospital. The absence of pain during contractions can be explained by the good extensibility of the tissues of the cervix and the birth canal, the high threshold of pain sensitivity and the good psycho-emotional readiness for childbirth of our heroine. In addition, throughout the whole process, Ksenia had a whole fetal bladder - this is also a powerful factor in protecting against pain, both for the woman in labor and the fetus. During contractions, an elastic fetal bladder filled with water acts as a universal shock absorber, protecting the fetus from excessive pressure on the walls of the uterus, the cervix from the direct pressure of the fetal head, and the woman in labor from pain.

After a shower, Oksana realized that she would have to give birth at home, and did not know what to do, because she was not preparing for “home” births. How to be the future mother and her loved ones, if childbirth occurs outside the walls of the medical facility - in an apartment, on vacation, or even on the road?

If the period of fights was short, you did not have time to understand that it was a birth, or get to the hospital, you had a desire to push, the "finest hour" of the future dad or another person who is at this moment next to the woman in labor comes. And the first thing to do is call an ambulance! At the same time, making a call, one should tell in detail everything about the woman in labor, using her own knowledge and an exchange card. Be sure to check how old she is, what is the duration of pregnancy, what kind of pregnancy / childbirth it is for a woman, how this pregnancy proceeded (if there were serious complications, it is necessary to mention this), when and how labor was started (the water flowed, contractions started) . You should also calmly and intelligently explain how to get to the place where you are. While doctors get to you, by phone you can get the necessary advice and a guide to action from them.

Then you need to help the woman in labor to take a comfortable position. It would be better if a woman lies on her side or reclines, half-sitting leaning her back against the wall, high headboard, car seat, a bundle of blankets. You can undress completely or take off your clothes below your waist. Under the lower part of the body you need to lay the purest matter or part of the clothes that you have. While there are contractions, it is effective to massage the back in the sacral region, the inner thighs, and the protrusions of the pelvic bones in the right and left iliac regions - these methods distract and help to transfer pain more easily. Watch your breath: during the contractions you should breathe superficially with your mouth wide open, and between contractions it is better to breathe as calmly and relaxed as possible. You can moisten your face, rinse your mouth (you should not drink with the rapid development of childbirth). Call up specialists and consult how and how you can help a woman in labor, depending on her feelings.

As soon as the paramedic arrived, she looked at the woman in labor, she realized that a bubble was already coming. Ksenia mentions that she was very worried about the fetal bladder that did not burst in time, because she remembered that in the first birth, in a similar situation, the doctors pierced it. It should be noted that in the process of childbirth, the fetal bladder performs important functions. At the beginning of labor, most of the first period, the fetal bladder, filled with amniotic fluid, presses on the cervix. During the scrum due to its elasticity, it expands into the lumen of the opening in the neck, increasing its opening. In the physiological (normal, natural) course of labor, the fetal bladder bursts with full or almost full (5-6 cm) opening of the cervix. With such a timely rupture of the membranes, the baby is without water for a little longer than the busy period. Timely rupture of the membranes not only contributes to the normal process of smoothing and opening the cervix, but also maintains the most favorable conditions for the fetus during labor. In the presence of amniotic fluid and a whole fetal bladder, the baby feels comfortable, it is protected from infection and excessive pressure from the contracting uterus, blood flow in the vessels of the uterus, placenta and umbilical cord does not suffer, and the process of opening the cervix proceeds well. However, if by the beginning of the attempt the fetal bladder still remains intact, it is certainly “punctured” (an amniotomy is performed) so that the dense wall of the bladder and the fetal water do not prevent the baby from taking its first independent breath.

Ksenia writes that she was "not so" pushing, so for a long time the last did not come out. This is a subsequent period - this is the name in the obstetrics of the third stage of labor, when everything that remains in the uterus after the fetus, the afterbirth, is born. The notion of placenta includes a child's place (placenta), the remains of the membranes (walls of the membranes) and the umbilical cord. This period is the shortest and subtle for a woman in labor. Usually it lasts several minutes and is accompanied by one fight. However, after a rapid birth, the separation of the afterbirth is sometimes delayed, since the entire supply of oxytocin, the hormone that controls the contraction of the uterus, is expended on the rapid birth of the baby. That is exactly what happened in the case of our heroine. The delay in the placenta in the uterus or the birth canal can cause postpartum hemorrhage, so the ambulance team promptly delivered Ksenia to the nearest maternity hospital to provide skilled obstetric care. Fortunately, she was not needed: soon after arriving at the maternity hospital, the latter safely separated himself.

At the end of the story, Ksenia warns readers: if the first birth passed quickly enough, the second birth can be even faster. And she is absolutely right; moreover, the fact of repeated birth with a short interval may be a predisposing factor to the rapid or even rapid development of labor. How not to miss the signs of "acceleration"? Rapid labor is characterized by a "stormy beginning." In this case, the first contractions are painful, prolonged and too frequent. If the contractions immediately cause a high degree of discomfort and are separated from each other by a pause of 10 minutes or less, you should go to the nearest hospital immediately! The sooner the expectant mother and baby are under the supervision of doctors, the more likely they are to correct labor and avoid complications.

In the case of the development of fast and rapid childbirth, therapeutic measures are aimed at reducing the intensity of labor, that is, reducing and reducing contractions. In the front desk, the expectant mother is laid on a gurney; getting up and walking is forbidden. A cleaning enema is not done when diagnosing rapid labor, as this procedure has a rhodostimulating effect. A woman in labor on a gurney is delivered to the maternity ward and placed on the bed, placing her on her side opposite to the position of the baby’s back. This position of the woman in labor prolongs the time of childbirth as much as possible. Childbirth is also taken in this position.

Most women experience the joy of motherhood. Those who are expecting a second or third baby no longer worry about how long the birth lasts. But for the first time, pregnant women are interested in the duration of the process. It is difficult to determine the exact appearance of the baby on the arrival of the mother in the hospital. Even gynecologists with extensive experience will not give an exact answer. However, consider the duration of the first birth, and what it depends on.

Doctors say that from the formation of regular contractions to delivery in primiparas, up to 12 hours pass. Sometimes faster, just 6 hours.

Factors of the onset of labor

 1. Termination of pregnancy, maturity.
 2. Water discharge.
 3. The appearance of light pinkish discharge.

These data indicate the emergence of fights. They represent a contraction of the uterus in the form of pain, as during menstruation. How much time will it take? At first they strain slightly. Between them, gaps of 20 to 30 minutes are formed. Gradually, discomfort intensifies and becomes more frequent. Each woman at such a moment thinks about how long the delivery will last, but she will have her own individual process.

It is important to understand whether the contractions really began or falsely. The first time a pregnant woman feels these manifestations at about the twentieth week. Do I have to be ready for childbirth? It is not necessary at all, since they are preceded by contractions with an interval of three to five minutes. A woman in labor should be interested in taking into account the time of each bout and its duration. For false - surprise, rapid attenuation and continuation during the week are characteristic. The reason is usually a lot of physical or emotional activity.

How long do the births of primiparas last

As mentioned above, the first birth takes half a day. Women wonder why so long. To carry out their natural course, you need to open the cervix to a maximum of twelve centimeters. Everything is carried out gradually:

 1. In the first phase, the duration is seven to eight hours. Fights thirty - forty-five seconds. The gap is five minutes. The cervix opens up three centimeters.
 2. The second is half as long. Contractions last sixty seconds. And they appear every two to four minutes. Twice as much cervical dilatation occurs.
 3. The third phase is the smallest and takes half an hour in time. Uterine contraction lasts 1.5 minutes every thirty to sixty seconds. The neck opens up to 10 cm.

The delivery process itself lasts no more than an hour. And received the name "exile". Summing up the length of labor for primiparas, we note the following:

 1. Contraction of the uterus in the initial stage can be up to 2 days.
 2. Intensified prenatal contractions and the opening of the cervix will take up to twelve hours.
 3. Independent childbirth will be forty-five to sixty minutes.

How long does the second birth and subsequent

Here it becomes an external initial harbinger. It is noticeable on linen in the form of yellow discharge.

The sensation in the form of false contractions in multiparous also occurs along with the named change. The onset of pain in the lower back and abdomen of a woman with experience is much easier. After all, the body remembers the previous pregnancy, and its reaction is not so acute. In addition, they always pass quickly and appear irregularly.

Real fights get a clear interval. Cramps in the lower abdomen go to increase. But not everything is simple here. If in the first birth doctors tried to stimulate them, then in repeated births they do the opposite and delay this process.

For a mother who has already given birth, the answer to the question of how long the second birth lasts will be very strong attempts within five hours. This time is enough for the baby to be born. The process of detention for several hours is considered the norm. If everything happens quickly, serious consequences can occur. They will appear as injuries to the baby. Because he accelerated maneuvering along the birth canal of mom. A woman will receive numerous tears of the mucous membrane.

It is difficult to exclude these injuries to women in childbirth, since not everyone can distinguish training attempts from the onset of labor activity in a timely manner. And they will stay at home for a long time. Consequently, it is necessary, even with small suspicions of the onset of childbirth, to quickly stop household chores, lay on their side and quickly call an ambulance. It is possible that the woman is lucky with her husband in a car or taxi. It is important to know that the trip for her should be in a prone position.

Even in a situation where the baby is able to figure out whether the fight is false or real, you do not have to postpone admission to the hospital. For the exact honey. statistics there is an assertion that re-giving birth is characterized by a sudden discharge of water. They are the beginning of strong battles. But, as mentioned above, they do not need to wait. Gather the necessary documents, comfortable clothes for yourself, daily necessities for the newborn and go to the maternity ward. Remember that maintaining positive emotions will allow your baby to be born soon.

So, now you are completely in control of the topic of how much labor lasts. In primiparous women, delivery takes an average of ten hours. Repeated - performed twice as fast during a break between pregnancies up to six years. And if he is ten or more, then the second birth in duration is the same as the first. Because the reproductive system forgets such actions.

Home birth is one of the most popular areas of obstetric care today. At the same time, many copies have already been broken about this event, a huge number of scientific papers have been written, a large number of publications in the press have been noted. Many modern women in labor have become adherents of natural childbirth since the beginning of pregnancy.

However, they do not take into account at all that it is natural to give birth in a hospital. Today, as never before, the popular saying: "Our grandmothers in general gave birth in the field." In addition, interest in the process is developing against the background of a large number of obstetric services that promise an ideal birth in a familiar environment. Doctors do not share such optimism and believe that giving birth at home is extremely dangerous. You should carefully study the topic in which home birth is considered in order to make the right and balanced decision.

What is a home birth?

The name of the process speaks for itself - such birth takes place at home. The main idea is the birth of a baby in the walls familiar to the mother, so that there is no hospital atmosphere and flora, and the presence of strangers is also excluded. After all, the first faces that a baby should see, having been born into the world, should be most dear to him - mothers and fathers.

Many who go to such a procedure are sure that everything will be in order, because they should ideally have a midwife who has an idea of how the process should go, what stages the woman in labor takes, how she can alleviate her condition and help the baby as much as possible gently come into the world.

It is believed that difficult contractions of a woman in childbirth are easier to endure in her usual environment - houses and walls help. This option is psychologically good for ladies who are too impressionable. Also, among the bonuses are called the absence of various kinds of interference, which, for example, may be outside the interests of the mother, the rejection of medications, which contributes to the maximum naturalness of the process. Also, home births serve to prevent the development of birth stress in the child and postpartum depression in the mother. After all, often an unfamiliar environment, especially if it is not very favorable, becomes a cause of shock for the woman in labor. And this immediately negatively affects the outcome of childbirth in general.

Childbirth at home usually occurs in the bath. It is believed that this is the most familiar environment for crumbs, which leaves the womb of the mother in the outside world, because he spent the last 9 months in water. In addition, it is believed that warm water helps a woman to relax and is much easier to endure contractions - so that even very painful ones become softer and almost invisible. Moreover, in the first period of labor, when the cervix is being opened, a woman can behave as she is comfortable - walking, using fitball to facilitate contractions, lying down. It is easier for her husband to do massage at home and conduct various encouraging procedures. The couple creates comfortable conditions for themselves and prepares to meet the baby.

It’s worthwhile to understand that it’s not worth making a decision about whether there will be a home birth just because we want to. It must be balanced and clear, well thought out. A woman should understand all the risks and dangers that such a procedure carries. This is necessary so that later there are no surprises and unexpected negative surprises. Indeed, according to statistics, the death rate of childbirth at home is much higher than that registered in hospital conditions.

For what reasons couples choose this option

Naturally, it is important to understand that couples who decide to give birth at home have a number of specific reasons for this. Doctors even identified a list of such provoking factors. Among them:

 • Poor quality of medical care in the maternity hospitals of the region: for example, if the maternity hospital is blown away by all the winds, it has not been repaired for a long time, it is not equipped with the necessary equipment, and the staff only knows what to be rude, give birth in such a trip, no one wants to (it’s important to understand that reviews about a particular maternity ward can always be found on the Internet)
 • The feeling of psychological discomfort from being in a public institution: a maternity hospital is in any case a hospital with its own schedule, conditions, food system, etc. Today, society with great desire and interest is ready to relate to the needs of women in labor, therefore, does not refuse her to refuse such a stay
 • Disdain from the staff of the hospital: for many health workers, such an intimate process is an ordinary container, plus, it’s no secret that there are such medical workers who do not have tender feelings for women in labor
 • The high cost of childbirth - although they are free under the compulsory medical insurance, there are a number of traditions that require financial investments, at least many retain such beliefs

Naturally, many want to protect themselves from all this, as well as to be a full part of the process, which some people have once in a lifetime. Therefore, the choice falls on.

What are the advantages of such obstetrics?

There are many advantages to giving birth at home. It is they who operate those who agitate women to give birth at home. So, in the first place, they call the usual situation a positive moment. After all, it is at home that a woman can behave as she likes - screaming when she wants to, choose those body positions in which she will be more comfortable giving birth. Also, a woman has the opportunity to choose convenient places for childbirth.

It is believed that a child at home is born in less pain. Indeed, from the point of view of the child, childbirth is a tremendous stress and no less serious overload. After all, a child gets quite abruptly from his usual aquatic environment into a room with bright light and suddenly out of nowhere air. For him it is stress and shock. As a result, he experiences pain from such a change from one medium to another. At home, it is possible to create an ideal environment - it is allowed to darken, provide dim lights, turn on the music. Also, the lady has the opportunity to deliver in a familiar and comfortable environment for the baby - in the water.

The hands that first take the baby will be their own, family for him - it is believed that the child energetically receives a lot of information in the first seconds of life7 Therefore, it is very important that he immediately meet with his parents, and not with the staff of the maternity ward. In this case, the father can take the baby first, and then put it on the mother’s chest. This establishes a very strong connection between all members of the family.

Another undoubted advantage of such childbirth is the ability to give the umbilical cord to pulsate. It is believed that blood runs down the umbilical cord both during childbirth and even after it. Therefore, in order to ensure the crumb a normal start, the umbilical cord should be pulsed, overtaking all the blood as expected.

Lack of intervention from health professionals. Modern women in childbirth do not want various manipulations to be used in the process of giving birth to their baby, which either speed up the process or slow it down, but at the same time deprive it of naturalness. Therefore, those who do not want anesthesia, bladder punctures, droppers with oxytocin, also opt for childbirth at home.

Of course, the fact that the child will be with his mother from the very first breath will also be a plus. A lady can immediately attach it to her chest, which perfectly stimulates lactation. Further, he will also be constantly with her. There is, however, an alternative point of view, according to which a woman will not have time in this scenario to come to her senses - after all, she will have to deal with the child immediately.

What are the disadvantages of home obstetric care

Be sure to take into account all the negative aspects of this process in order to make the right choice. First of all, you need to understand that childbirth is an extremely unpredictable process. And anything can happen in them - for example, even the doctors themselves do not know how this or that pregnancy will end. There were many cases when a completely good course of the process and the absence of pathologies led to pathological birth. As a rule, childbirth develops very rapidly, and there are many situations when you need to make a decision instantly, as well as have all the necessary equipment at hand. If a woman has bleeding, then the price is a few minutes. In the hospital, you can stop the pathological process, including using blood transfusion. At home, this will not be possible.

Under current laws, healthcare providers are not allowed to take birth anywhere outside the hospital. An exception is emergency births that start outside the hospital and run the risk of ending at home. Many couples are sure that once they have a midwife, this will ensure the safety of the process. But here it is important to consider that the midwife usually does not have all the necessary knowledge, and in case of a critical situation she will be completely powerless. If the pathological course of labor develops, the help of surgeons, resuscitators, anesthetists and, of course, pediatric doctors are required. It is important to remember that officially the midwife will not bear any responsibility in case something goes wrong.

Doctors say that today many conditions are created in maternity hospitals that help a woman give birth at home. This can be family chambers, and special items to help the lady, such as mats, fitballs, pools, etc. But here you can always find all the necessary equipment at hand.

Among the minuses and the inability to provide a good and sterile platform for childbirth. After all, it is far from always that you can even prepare a bath so that it is suitable as a place for a person to be born. Quite often, many microorganisms that are dangerous for mother and child live in houses, for example, black mold - it is extremely toxic and poisonous.

Instructions on how to make childbirth safer

Doctors and specialists offer a number of recommendations with which you can protect childbirth at home. So, first of all, you should clearly answer your question: why is a choice made in favor of this option. And if there is no answer, or it is clearly unconvincing, then it is worth abandoning such an idea.

Also, do not experiment with ladies in age and those who are primiparas. In order to go harmoniously and safely, both members of the couple must be tuned to this option of obstetric care - only in this case the father will be able to help the mother and support her in everything. If he begins to insist that he was against, quarrels will begin, which in the matter of giving birth to the baby are considered unnecessary.

It is very important to choose the right midwife. This should be a responsible person who will not leave a couple in difficult times. Despite the fact that she is not responsible before the law for a failed birth in the event of a fatal outcome or disability of the mother or child, this should be a lady who will have a high personal degree of responsibility. Then she will do everything to the maximum so that the process goes well and smoothly. Ideally, she should have a medical education and solid experience in maternity hospitals.

Good quality preparation for home birth is also required - without this, nowhere. Only in the process of studying the theory can we understand how truly this fits the couple. Today there are many special courses that will allow you to master the entire array of information on this issue. You need to listen to almost every word. It is also worth discussing all the nuances and details with those who have already gone through all this in practice. Then it will be easier to imagine what, what and how should follow in this process.

You should discuss everything with the midwife in advance and compose a first aid kit. Indeed, at birth, at least antiseptics, pads, diapers and napkins, suture material, etc. are required. It is advisable to agree in advance with the maternity hospital, which is located as close to the house as possible, so that in case of emergency, you can quickly get there. It is important to remember that if something starts to go wrong - the count goes on minutes.

All medicines must be bought in advance - if something goes wrong, there will be no time to run and sort out the pharmacies and no one. It is also worthwhile to prepare a bag in the hospital in advance, just in case.

To prepare for childbirth, you should pre-purchase and put clean sheets, oilcloth, a set of towels, sterile wipes, gauze, cotton wool, shoe covers and sterile clothing. Today, many of this is offered in ordinary pharmacies.

What are contraindications for childbirth at home?

No matter how much the lady wants to give birth at home, no matter how the midwife persuades her, no matter how the future father insists, there are a number of points that are absolute contraindications to such experiments. And they must be observed in order not to get the sad outcome of childbirth at home.

In the list of complications and pathologies with which you can not give birth:

 • A narrow basin called clinical, combined with a large fetus
 • The presence of diabetes
 • Disorders in the cardiovascular system
 • Endocrine problems
 • Malfunctions in the nervous system
 • Urinary system malfunction
 • Complicated pregnancy
 • Signs of late gestosis
 • Problems with the placenta of various kinds - from its presentation to detachment
 • Incorrect position of the child, for example, if he is in the pelvic presentation
 • The presence of several fruits
 • Indications for cesarean section - in this case, even in the hospital, it’s not possible to give birth naturally and independently

It is worth considering that in such a situation you should not even think about giving birth on your own. Indeed, in this case, either a fatal outcome of the mother and the fetus, or the fetus alone, or disability is guaranteed. In such a situation, even childbirth in the hospital can result in problems. But there are more chances to save both the mother and the child.

What is preparation for childbirth at home?

All in a voice say that you should very carefully prepare for childbirth at home. And without this, you can’t go to such an experiment. It is important to understand that training should be comprehensive. So, for example, it is necessary to learn the basics of respiratory gymnastics - it is she who will help to breathe correctly during the birth of the crumbs and ease the condition of the lady. You also need to take a collection of exercises for relaxation - this will relieve tension and muscle spasm. It should be understood that in the process of childbirth, muscle spasm is a serious obstacle to a harmonious and easy childbirth.

One of the points of responsible preparation is the collection of a special first-aid kit - all preparations and means must necessarily correspond to the expiration date. Such a first-aid kit is usually standard, but it is better to consult your midwife in advance to complement it optimally.

Be sure to prepare all the documents - in case you have to go to the hospital. Of course, we should not forget about the preparation of the house for such an important event - a general cleaning must be carried out and at least redecorated.

What are the types of childbirth at home

As experts on the topic assure, giving birth at home can be done in different ways. Among the most common options are:

 • Childbirth in water
 • Vertical birth
 • Solo childbirth

Childbirth in water: what are the features

The birth of a child in the aquatic environment is considered one of the usual options and the best for the baby. For mom, a definite plus is a number of factors in this case. Firstly, the water smooths out the soreness of sensations, and the woman in labor does not feel such discomfort. In addition, water relaxes the back muscles, which helps to avoid excruciating back pain at a time when you need to focus on another. Also in water, ladies are usually easier to hold the selected position.

It is worthwhile to understand that those who give birth directly to the water are desperate people. Indeed, despite the fact that this environment is common for crumbs, from the womb it enters a bathtub filled with water, and may well choke. Respiratory distress and cramps are frequent companions of such an ill-conceived delivery option.

In addition, the danger of such childbirth is that in the water it is difficult to notice the onset of bleeding in time. And we must remember that the water from the water supply is not sterile at all, so the risk of infection of a woman and a child with various microorganisms remains.

Choice - vertical: how does it differ

Today, more and more often, young mothers are leaning toward vertical childbirth. Such are considered the best option - the most natural, faster and better from all points of view. Throughout the birth, a woman walks, jumps and hangs on horizontal bars. Due to the impact of a heavy fetus on the neck, the process of opening it is much faster and softer. Moreover, all this is quite natural and does not violate the course of events.

When attempts begin, a woman in labor can squat or stand on all fours - as experts say, it is in this position that the optimal coordination of the pelvic muscles for expelling the fetus is noted. Also in this position, the muscles of the peritoneum work well.

The only drawback of this type of delivery option is the fact that it is inconvenient to monitor the process of opening the uterus and you can skip the onset of complications, if any.

We give birth on our own: how to solo

A type of home birth called solo is one of the most risky. Indeed, in this case, the process of childbearing goes without any help at all. At this moment, only her partner is with the woman in labor. And here it is worthwhile to understand that preparation for such should be more serious.

In a situation where a couple practices solo childbirth, it must be borne in mind that the responsibility will rest only with them. And it is they themselves who must worry about security measures. In this case, you must be clearly sure mom that dad at the crucial moment will not faint from the sight of blood.

When to seek help urgently

It is important to study in advance the options when you should urgently seek help. Doctors highlight a list of pathological problems that require dialing 103 on the phone. So, among them:

 • The prolonged course of childbirth: if the water has already left about 10 hours ago, and the baby still has not been born, you need to go to the hospital. This condition is fraught with oxygen starvation in crumbs. Doctors say that in such situations you have to resort to stimulation, and in some cases to surgery
 • The child is stuck in the bones of the mother’s pelvis due to their size mismatch. In this case, you should contact a specialist as soon as possible. And although this indicator is a contraindication to home birth, it is important to consider that it is not always possible to calculate the size of the fetus in advance - ultrasound machines are often mistaken

Home birth is becoming popular among women who do not want to be in the hospital. In familiar conditions, the process is more confident and calmer. At the same time, the appearance of a baby in the light outside the hospital has many tragic consequences.

general information

If we talk briefly about home birth, then this is the planned or emergency birth of a child in the usual conditions for a woman. The process is accompanied by a midwife or gynecologist. Families who choose a baby’s home birth find it safe and natural.

Home birth in Russia is prohibited by law, as there are no specially trained personnel in the country. From a medical point of view, it is better if the mother and the child are in the hospital.

In Europe and the USA, home birth is allowed. Women are assisted by qualified midwives or family members. Punishment for giving birth outside the hospital is not provided. In countries there is a special department of home birth, which trains medical personnel.

In Australia, the government provides financial assistance to those with a child born at home. Legislation allows midwives to practice medicine and use essential medicines.

How much is a home birth with a midwife? The average cost in Russia varies from 70 to 150 thousand rubles. Price depends on region and medical experience.

Home delivery statistics suggest that:

 • 8.3% of women have bleeding;
 • 9.4% - birth canal injuries;
 • 7.5% of children suffered from postpartum diseases;
 • 10% of infants are born with pathologies.

The number of deaths among newborns at home is much higher than in maternity hospitals. The reason is the transience of the process, the unprofessional midwife, untimely medical care.

Types of home birth:

 1. traditional
 2. vertical
 3. in water.

From a legal point of view, future parents need to prepare and understand that the responsibility lies with them. If a woman gives birth at home, then it is possible to bring to court only if the baby is intentionally harmed.

Causes

Women choose childbirth at home to provide the best way for their baby to be born. The process proceeds more naturally without the use of medical intervention and medications.

 • real natural birth. The process takes place without the participation of doctors, no stimulation is used, forceps, no episiotomy is performed. The pose is chosen intuitively, depending on the wishes of the woman in labor;
 • the umbilical cord is not cut immediately, which allows the newborn to get the necessary number of stem cells;
 • with abnormalities of labor, bleeding should be enough time to get to the hospital. An experienced midwife will be able to correctly assess the danger of the situation;
 • delivery at home with the husband involves the help of the spouse, his support and attention. In maternity hospitals, the presence of a spouse is not always allowed;
 • the possibility of giving birth in the bath. It is believed that the appearance of a child in the water favorably affects development.

You can facilitate the period of contractions by any method chosen, for example, take a shower, jump on a gymnastic ball, walk around the room, listen to soothing music.

Close people set up a woman for positive emotions, distract from pain. You can find support at home in a husband, mom, best friend. A woman in labor and a baby are immediately together. Medical staff does not take the child to the children's department, does not recommend vaccinations.

Soft home births allow you to feel the whole process from beginning to end without the intervention of outsiders, stimulation with medicines. A pleasant atmosphere promotes relaxation and tranquility, a woman feels safe next to loved ones.

Contraindications and complications

Doctors advocate for and against home birth, because in addition to convenience and psychological calm, the process is accompanied by complications. The responsibility in this case lies entirely with the parents of the baby.

Possible complications during home birth:

 1. birth injury;
 2. rupture of the uterus and perineum, causing blood loss;
 3. difficulty in the exit of the placenta;
 4. heavy bleeding that will require urgent transfusion;
 5. death of a child due to suffocation, falling, getting into the lungs of amniotic fluid;
 6. placental abruption;
 7. entwining the umbilical cord.

Problems with doctors and experienced obstetricians are also a minus. An incompetent nurse will not be able to help a woman in labor and the fetus, which will lead to complications and death.

The experience of home birth shows that an ambulance, in the presence of deviations in the process, does not always manage to hospitalize a woman in labor and the baby in time. This leads to the removal of the female genital organs, infertility, fetal death.

Contraindications:

 • diabetes. Since the disease requires regular monitoring of blood glucose levels;
 • uterine pathology, abnormal placenta previa;
 • diseases of the cardiovascular system, mental disorders;
 • fetal malformations, hypoxia;
 • iVF for the conception of a child requires constant monitoring by doctors;
 • multiple pregnancy;
 • infections of the reproductive system, chronic diseases.

The second birth can also be a contraindication, since the process is faster, more painful and faster. Incorrect presentation of the fetus is an indication for cesarean section, which is carried out only in a hospital.

Training

Preparation for delivery should begin during pregnancy. First of all, it is recommended to attend courses for young parents, to master the breathing technique, to train the genital muscles using exercises.

How to prepare for home birth:

 1. find an experienced midwife;
 2. arrange with the nearest hospital for hospitalization in case of complications in a woman or fetus;
 3. for the baby to appear in the water, you will need a pool for home birth or a large bath;
 4. tidy up the apartment, carry out general cleaning and antiseptic treatment;
 5. prepare things for the newborn.

The first-aid kit for home birth should include a silk rope for bandaging the umbilical cord or clothespin, alcohol, Chlorophyllipt oil solution 2%, iodine, hydrogen peroxide, Solcoseryl. Medicines will be needed to treat tears, a belly button, baby hygiene procedures.

What you need for home birth:

 • clean, well-ironed sheets;
 • cotton wool and means for treating the perineum;
 • sterile packaging for afterbirth;
 • ice warmer;
 • disposable diapers;
 • kids' things.

To speed up the birth process and facilitate labor at home, alternative methods are used. An experienced midwife will be able to tell a woman in labor how to behave.

Natural stimulation:

 • sexual intercourse affects the uterus of a pregnant woman, since sperm softens the walls of the organ, makes muscle tissue more elastic;
 • massage of the breast and nipples enhances the production of oxytocin, accelerates the birth process, provokes contractions;
 • walking and physical activity during pregnancy help bring the baby closer. During childbirth, yoga and exercises on the gymnastic ball reduce pain.

Preparing for a home birth is a responsible occupation, since the course of the process and the appearance of complications depend on it. Non-sterility of the room leads to infections that adversely affect the health of the child.

Childbirth

It will not be possible to predict how labor activity will take place, since the body of every woman has its own characteristics. During pregnancy, it is recommended to study the medical literature and watch a video about the appearance of children at home.

How women give birth at home:

 1. preparatory stage. Includes natural stimulation and preparation of the body for childbirth;
 2. contractions. The contractions during this period are intense, lasting about 60 seconds. The interval between them is 1-2 minutes. At this time, the cervix is shortened, the walls of the uterus are smoothed. Contractions with the whole bladder are less painful, and opening is faster;
 3. water discharge. The amniotic bubble bursts under the influence of pressure in the uterus at the opening of 8-10 cm. Water facilitates the passage of the fetus through the birth canal;
 4. attempts and the birth of a child. The head abuts against the entrance of the cervical canal and under the influence of uterine contractions, the fetus comes out;
 5. umbilical cord cutting;
 6. the birth of the afterbirth. Be sure to check the integrity of the placenta;
 7. the first application of the baby to the breast contributes to the production of breast milk.

Important in the process is cutting the umbilical cord. It occurs 20 minutes after the birth of the baby. This allows the baby to get all the necessary substances.

How to cut the umbilical cord at home birth:

 • wait until the umbilical cord stops pulsating;
 • bandage the organ with a silk thread at a distance of 2 cm from the baby's body;
 • after 20 cm from the first knot tie a second time;
 • cut the umbilical cord in the middle with sterile scissors;
 • to process the edges of the wounds.

A few drops of blood may stand out from the umbilical cord. In the normal course of labor, it should not bleed when cut.

Features

If complications arise during or after labor, you must urgently go to the hospital. Timely help from experienced doctors will save the life of the mother and child.

When to go to the hospital:

 • with prolonged labor, when the anhydrous period is more than 10 hours;
 • if a uterine rupture, placental abruption, separation of the umbilical cord. With this pathology, an urgent blood transfusion is required so that the baby does not die;
 • absenteeism of the placenta will require surgical intervention and cleaning. The remains of the placenta cause inflammation, bleeding;
 • a narrow pelvis in a woman, in which the exit of the child is difficult.

A serious condition can only be removed by experienced obstetricians who have medical devices and medicines. Emerging complications often lead to death.

How to find a midwife for home birth:

 1. she must have a medical education in obstetrics and provide documents;
 2. when choosing, a good midwife will be interested in the tests of the pregnant woman, her state of health, will warn about possible complications;
 3. make a birth plan, tell you how to prepare a home, what things are needed.

The outcome of the birth process depends on the choice of the accompanying nurse. To find a midwife, you can use the reviews of women in labor, women's forums, and bases of medical centers.

What you need to know at home birth:

 • how is the birth process;
 • methods of natural stimulation;
 • hygienic treatment of the newborn;
 • how to help a woman in childbirth and a baby.

Unsuccessful home births often occur due to the inexperience of the midwife, ignorance of future parents of the intricacies of the process, and improper preparation. To avoid this, it is recommended to attend special courses, to master the technique of breathing and obstetric care.

Home birth - fashion or madness, can not be said for sure. An increasing number of families prefer a comfortable appearance of a child in their usual conditions. Future parents should be aware that the process can occur with complications and risk to the life of the mother and baby. It is very important to prepare correctly, find an experienced obstetrician and tune in a positive way.

Love Plahotnik: “Unfortunately, I only recently realized how deep the gulf separating women preparing for childbirth, especially for the first birth, from those who are trying to help them in this. Institutional dependence, formed by years of study and public opinion, does its job. Young women, young couples sincerely believe that preparing for childbirth is akin to preparing for the exams that they have already passed. respectively perceived as another exam. There is an unreasonable belief that in order to “give birth well” it is enough to remember the information offered in the classroom and to conscientiously perform all the exercises.

The meaning of preparing for childbirth is not to “educate” women, but to help them return to their own nature. For a short period of pregnancy, it is not easy to go from a "modern man" to a Woman who can become a Mother. Many are capable of this without outside help; others along the way need substantial psychological and moral support. This is the main goal of all courses and activities for pregnant women. ”

Most often on the Internet you will find enthusiastic stories about home birth. And hardly anyone will share their negative experience. It so happened that it is customary to describe maternity horrors, and childbirth at home, if you are not pathologically afraid of them, are associated with something bright and joyful. Everything happened to me exactly the opposite. My first birth began as a home, continued in the hospital, ended in deep depression. The second birth in the hospital was relatively good. But with all the negative experience of the home, and the positive experience of the maternity hospital, I am for giving birth at home. Only home obstetricians are different, and their approaches to preparing pregnant women are also different. And my story will be about how they, in my opinion, should not be.

At the seventh month of pregnancy, my busy life suddenly stopped abruptly, and finally it was time to prepare for the upcoming exciting event. My beloved was not against childbirth at home, and I was very against childbirth in the hospital. And so, by chance, (and as you know, there are no accidents), I stumbled on the Internet on a site about childbirth, motherhood and caring for a newborn, among other things, it offered training and help at home. My husband and I decided to take a chance. Thus began our comprehensive preparation for home birth. It included physical exercise, swimming, stretching the perineum, preparing the cervix, several lectures on safety in childbirth. My husband and I had to stretch the crotch with a special massage to ten centimeters so that it would not tear during childbirth. The cervix softened and prepared for childbirth with the help of sex. And we both conscientiously engaged in both.

I will dwell a little on lectures.

Their essence was that the maternity hospital is an absolute evil, natural birth is not possible there, the entire medical system is imprisoned for the deprivation of the health of the mother and newborn, even the theory of a worldwide conspiracy was mentioned. Childbirth in the hospital is for the majority, childbirth at home is for people who think, for the elite. But at the same time, there is a long list of contraindications for childbirth at home, and if you suddenly find them, then you have to go through all the circles of hell in a medical institution. Incidentally, I was very afraid that I would not have these very contraindications.

One of them was the weight of the child no more than three kilograms at the time of birth (checked by the latest ultrasound), at the end of pregnancy I tried to limit myself to food on the advice of home obstetricians, so that, God forbid, not overfeed the baby. Much more has been said about the physiology of this process, about the dangers that await us in childbirth and after them. Obstetricians boasted that all births had been exceptionally successful, and this is all documented in the video. Particular attention was paid to massage of the perineum, as they explained to us that taking me to the hospital if I “tear” is a very complicated and unpleasant procedure.

Now for me this all sounds absurd, but then in our desire, my husband and I did not notice obvious things and did not even think that somehow something could be different. Then we were bribed by simplicity, clarity, logicality, a medical approach quite familiar to us, only without all the medical delights in the appendage. A couple of words were said about relaxation, a couple - about how to push and breathe, from this I remembered the words of the midwife: "I will be there and show you everything." We were not advised to read a single book about childbirth and preparation for them, but we were fixated on the physics of this process and all its dangers, which we could not even imagine how multifaceted the birth of a person is.

A week before the long-awaited event, we were told that it might happen that our midwife will not be able to attend the birth. Since at the same time a woman in another city from a very wealthy family gives birth to me. They will pay her a flight to another city and all expenses. In this case, it would be natural for obstetricians to find a replacement, but they suggested that if childbirth begins at the same time (although, in their opinion, this is unlikely) to go to this city and give birth with that woman. I flatly refused. I believed that everything would be resolved in the best way, I hoped for my luck and was not very worried. But my husband began to worry and worry. We didn’t want to look for a home midwife three days before giving birth, it was important for me that this was a well-known person. And such a well-known person was found ...

My girlfriend once worked in a maternity hospital for a long time. We did not even hope that she would agree to insure us, but still decided to give it a try. Hearing the story “with another city”, to our great surprise, she ventured into this heroic act. We immediately turned to home midwives for help and asked for some help — to train a former midwife, my girlfriend. Reluctantly, they first agreed, and then requested a very large amount of money for training. I fully hoped that we would not have to resort to her help, and we recklessly refused.

But as you might have guessed, my birth began simultaneously with the birth of a woman from another city. They started at four in the morning and generally lasted about 26 hours. We agreed with the home midwife to keep in touch by phone, and our friend came to us for delivery. At first everything went well, I did not panic, beautiful music sounded, and I will never forget this wonderful atmosphere of home birth. But time passed, I began to get tired, the waters receded, but not much, but the contractions became stronger, I began to be pushed, the disclosure was complete.

I began to push, but I could not manage to push the child. Perhaps I began to push early. Honestly, I do not know how to, it was right to do at that moment. So I tormented for two hours. We called the home midwife, she said that it was all too long for us, and advised us to break the amniotic fluid, which was performed by our assistant. And then I felt very, very painful, and at some point I lost faith that I could manage to give birth to myself. Pelvic bones hurt. The only thing I wanted was for it to end. I am still ashamed of these feelings: at that moment, I was not thinking about the child, I was not thinking about anything, I only wanted it to not hurt.

It was decided to call an ambulance.

My husband was always there and supported me, many thanks to him for this. At that time we lived in the private sector, our friend ran to meet an ambulance and show the way to our house, and my husband and I were left alone. It hurt unbearably. Instinctively, during the next bout, I got on all fours. Attempts began. Everything happened by itself, and for three attempts, dad was born into the hands of our baby. At that moment, the emergency doctors ran in, cut the umbilical cord and put the baby on my chest. I felt relief, but not joy. We were loaded onto a stretcher and sent to the hospital. This seemed to be the end of my torment, but to be continued.

In the maternity hospital, it turned out that the vagina had broken during childbirth, the crotch remained intact (it was not in vain that we worked so hard to stretch it), I had several internal sutures. There, they gave birth to a placenta. Dad was naturally not allowed to visit us. Immediately on the operating table, they started scolding me, scolding me, scolding me, at some point I was even funny because of the absurdity of what they said there. Then we were transferred to the ward, that night I lay with my daughter on my stomach, cried and asked her for forgiveness. I was a real celebrity in the hospital, everyone considered it his duty to look at me, some of the doctors yelled at me (I write this and cry), someone was afraid that I would pick up the child and run away through the window, there were those who simply sympathized but there weren’t many of them ...

Then an extract, entry into a new life with a child and new disappointments. Unfortunately, I did not manage to breastfeed, which was another blow for me, I really dreamed about it. Unsure of myself after childbirth, I listened to the advice of mom, husband, doctors, but not myself and my daughter. And after the story of home obstetricians, I had some kind of prejudice about the breastfeeding consultants.

As a result, depression, a constant feeling of guilt in front of her daughter and the next pregnancy. With home obstetricians who were going to help us, but could not, we never spoke again. They continue their practice, they only ask for fabulous money for their services, emphasizing the elitism of home birth. Probably, we spoiled them a little statistics ... But now, I'm even glad that everything turned out that way. Thanks to this occasion, I realized and rethought a lot about childbirth, motherhood and life in general ...

The question of where to give birth for the second time was not long, due to certain circumstances (the thrush did not go through the entire pregnancy), we decided to give birth in the hospital. Having the experience of past birth behind me, I really did not want to go there, but we had no other choice. We found a maternity hospital where we took birth while sitting (or, at least, they claimed so) and provided comfortable living conditions for the baby, mother and father of the child. Before the second birth, I probably worried more than before the first.

This time I also prepared, but in a completely different way. This time I came to the realization that there would be no one around who would help me, give birth to a child the way I want, the most gentle for both of us. I will be on someone else’s territory, and the responsibility for how my birth will pass lies entirely with me. Starting from the sixth month of pregnancy, I discovered "Childbirth without fear", and my husband and I conscientiously began to relax my body, which later helped me a lot during childbirth.

My second birth began at night.

Early in the morning on a very sunny, but cold day, we got into the car and went to the hospital. I could never have thought that driving in battles along our roads might be so uncomfortable. (Another huge plus of home birth is that you do not need to go anywhere). Honestly, I expected that my second birth would be swift, but in my case it was not so. I gave birth about 6 hours. My body, as if patiently waiting for the appropriate conditions for the birth of the baby to unfold. The maternity hospital in the second birth is not associated with something terrible for me, rather for me it was too formal and crowded.

When, having gone through all the checks, registration, changing clothes, we finally got to the maternity room, and I finally tried to go deeper into the birth process, when doctors, nurses, midwives, and nurses started to fly in, and there was no end to them no edge. As soon as I tuned into childbirth, I began to listen to myself, the baby, living the contractions and, as if dissolving into them, some other assistant burst into us to find out how we were doing. The husband all this time calmly sat nearby on a comfortable couch and watched my walk around the room and songs (for some reason I sang during the fights).

He was accused of inaction, but in fact, during childbirth, I did not need anyone, not even my husband, then I really wanted to not be disturbed. As a result, the assistants were tired of waiting, I still didn’t have any water left, and the disclosure was almost complete. They broke the amniotic fluid, contractions became very painful, at that moment they put me a dropper (a mandatory procedure in the hospital). Together with this dropper, I went to sit on a chair to give birth, they asked me to lie on the bed, I categorically refused to do this, and ordered me to send a doctor for the chapters. Honestly, I was ready to give birth to a child, standing, but not lying. After a moment's pause, the midwife reluctantly gritted her teeth: "Sit down." A few minutes later my son was born, they put him on my stomach - a moment full of happiness. Then everything is as it should be in the hospital.

Comparing the experience of two births, I am for giving birth at home. It would seem that I should have formed a different opinion. Indeed, I was very upset about my home birth, and probably the first step to accepting what happened was to tell my two-year-old daughter about my feelings. I told her everything: how she was born, how I could not breastfeed (I have been feeding my second child for a year and three months), how I worried about this. And between us, as if a wall fell, our relationship has become much closer. There is a proven fact that we all remember our birth, and kids can even talk about it. I think for my daughter, her birth was also a trauma, not by itself (she was born in excellent condition), but because of the emotional load that accompanied her.

The second step was to study the process of childbirth more deeply. Naturally, there are a number of indications for childbirth in a medical institution. But if pathological cases are ignored, it seems to me that the main reason why so many discussions about childbirth at home is the fear of death. Preparation for childbirth, whether it be childbirth at home or in the hospital, should not be based on fears, although scientifically based - this path leads to a dead end.

Childbirth is a process of perceiving, accepting even the possibility of death as well.

And when, in society, there is an opinion that a maternity hospital relieves parents of responsibility for the death of a newborn during childbirth, think about whether it makes it easier for parents? Birth, like death, is an integral part of life. We have the illusion that medicine has power over life and death. But practice proves the opposite, and when preparing for home birth or childbirth in the maternity hospital, we use a purely medical mechanistic approach with its clarity, unambiguity, thoughtfulness, logic, we are not ready to meet Life with its unpredictable, and we are often not dependent decisions.

Preparation for childbirth is, first of all, internal preparation, addition of one’s philosophy of childbirth, awareness of what happens to you during pregnancy and what will happen after. After reading a lot of books about the birth of children, having given birth both at home and in the hospital, I now realize that it’s ideal for me to give birth myself without assistance.

The husband and midwife should be near, but invisible during childbirth, and appear only when necessary. At the expense of the presence of a man in childbirth, I largely agree with Michel Oden. Still, a woman gives birth, not a husband and not a midwife. Childbirth should not be conducted, but followed. This is such an intimate process, it is a holiday, first of all, yours and your baby’s, and I want to enjoy every moment of it, sharing with my child this extreme joy of the New Man entering our world ... Is this possible in the hospital?
