VAZ 2110 or, also known as Lada 110, is a four-door, five-seater front wheel drive sedan, which was put on the assembly line in 1996. After the completion of the assembly history of the VAZ 2110 at the Volzhsky Automobile Plant, a production license was acquired by the Lugansk Automobile Plant. Today, the modernized version of the VAZ 2110 is assembled under the Bogdan 2110 brand.

VAZ 2110 was produced in several technical modifications, differing in the type and displacement of the engine, speed and a number of other technical characteristics. Thus, the VAZ 21010 with 8- and 16-valve engines was presented on the domestic market, which ideally satisfied the basic needs of the majority of “urban” car enthusiasts. Even maximum speed VAZ 2110 (170-180 km/h, depending on the engine type) fully satisfies the needs of city dwellers.

It came to replace the carburetor engine, which was originally installed on the first VAZ-2110. At the same time, an 8-valve injection engine with a displacement of 1.5 liters first appeared, but then the engine displacement was increased to 1.6 liters.

An injector with 8 valves with a volume of 1.5 liters received the engine index VAZ-2111, a more powerful unit with a volume of 1.6 liters (8-liter) received the index VAZ-21114. Recently, modifications of the 21114 motor have been produced; they are installed on almost all of today’s Lada models though already under a different index.

So, how does the VAZ 2110 8-valve injector work? Firstly, the main difference between the carburetor version of the engine and the injector is the supply of fuel to the combustion chamber. If in a carburetor engine the combustible mixture is sucked into the cylinders under the influence of vacuum created by the pistons, then in an injection unit the fuel is injected under pressure. It is because of this that the entire design of the injector and carburetor “ten” fuel systems is different.

It all starts in the gas tank, where the electric fuel pump, whose task is to create the necessary pressure in the ramp. From the ramp, fuel under pressure is injected into the combustion chamber through nozzles. The entire injection process is controlled electronically, which opens and closes (via a return spring) the injector solenoid valves, injecting fuel into the engine. But the electronics in the VAZ 2110 8-valve injector do not work on their own, but are guided by signals from pressure sensors in fuel system, air and position sensors throttle valve. There is none of this in the carburetor “ten”.

In this regard, let's talk about the pros and cons of the VAZ 2110 8-valve injector. On the positive side, it can be noted that the operation of the injector is more stable, the engine produces more power and torque, while fuel consumption is less than in the carburetor version. But if carburetor VAZ 2110 can be repaired with almost bare hands, while the injection version requires diagnostic equipment, without which it can be extremely difficult to identify the problem. After all, if one of the sensors turns out to be faulty, then your injection engine may not start or work intermittently.

The first work on the VAZ-2110 car began in the 80s - the model appeared in 1983, and the prototype was created in 1984! But then the development was postponed in favor of more realistic development of the Samara project. And although work on a car that could become a flagship model range VAZ and the founder of a new generation of front-wheel drive cars continued to be developed, only in 1992 the first prototype appeared. Economic circumstances prevented its introduction into production. Serial production began in 1996. With the advent of “ten” among buyers Russian cars for the first time it became possible to take advantage of the following technical innovations: adjustable steering column, immobilizer, on-board computer. In the “luxury” configuration, cars are additionally equipped with cast rims dimensions 14 inches, on-board computer, heated front seats, electrically adjustable and heated exterior rear-view mirrors, fog lights.

The “Ten” was initially equipped with carburetor 1.5-liter 69-horsepower VAZ-21083 engines, which, together with a high degree of unification in a number of components and assemblies with already produced cars, somewhat simplified operation and maintenance for owners. It became basic own engine VAZ-21100 (73 hp), 8-valve carburetor with a working volume of 1.5 liters. The model with an 8-valve 79-horsepower 1.5-liter engine with distributed fuel injection has the VAZ 21102 index. This engine provides sufficient performance in terms of both power and torque, with moderate fuel consumption. The maximum speed of the car reaches 170 km/h, and acceleration to “hundreds” takes 14 seconds. A 16-valve version has been developed for more active drivers gasoline engine with a working volume of 1.5 liters and a power of 94 hp, with a twin-shaft cylinder head, providing increased thrust-to-weight ratio. A car equipped with such an engine has the VAZ 21103 index, the maximum speed is already 185 km/h, and acceleration to “hundreds” takes only 12.5 seconds. The car was also equipped with 1.6 and 2 liter engines ( sports modification 21106) with a power of 81-89 and 150 hp.

The front suspension is independent with telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers. The rear is semi-independent, spring, with a torsion beam. The design is largely the same as its predecessor, the “nine”, but compared to the 21099 sedan, the “tens” were significantly improved performance characteristics, including fuel consumption, mainly due to a decrease in the aerodynamic drag coefficient. A significant step forward was the spacious luggage compartment (480 l) with wide transformation possibilities: a hatch in the rear seat and a trunk lid that reaches the bumper allow you to transport long cargo.

The safety of the “ten” has also increased significantly compared to its predecessor models. For example, the car received height-variable upper seat belt anchorages and a driver's airbag in some trim levels. Pledge for less braking distance steel ventilated disc brakes on the front wheels. But for the conservative Russian buyer, a big role in the popularity of this car was played not so much by the price and its ratio to quality, but by the high degree of maintainability and the possibility of repair in garage conditions. What allowed the “ten” to remain the most prestigious and expensive domestic car until the appearance of the new Lada Priora model.
