VAZ carburetor maintenance. Carburetor repair: possible difficulties

The normal operation of the engine depends on how well the fuel supply to the cylinders is adjusted. correct settings Not every motorist can use a carburetor. Since not everyone is well versed in the power system of a carburetor engine.

But if you have at least superficial knowledge, then making a rough adjustment will be easy. It’s better to entrust more subtle adjustments to professionals who are experienced in this matter.

A good way out of this situation is to independently study all the intricacies of tuning carburetors. This is relevant for cases where there is no competent craftsman nearby. You will need to understand the principles of operation of the VAZ 2101 carburetor in order to know the purpose of all the jets in the fuel supply system, since the quality of mixture formation directly depends on them.

Tuning the VAZ 2101 carburetor is necessary for your engine to function normally. Not only its power, efficiency, gasoline consumption, but also, most importantly, its service life depend on how the internal combustion engine operates. The good news is that the carburetor does not need frequent adjustments.

Clean all the channels, rinse it, install new jets, and then you just need to change the fuel and air filters on time to ensure the carburetor operates as correctly as possible. Unfortunately, spare parts are not always available on the market good quality. Therefore, from time to time some malfunctions may occur in the fuel injection system.

Kopek carburetor breakdowns

Now it’s worth considering what problems can occur in the carburetor. If suddenly the engine begins to operate unstably in idle mode, changes in speed are observed crankshaft, or the engine stalls if you do not press the accelerator pedal, there is no need to blame the carburetor for the troubles. In particular, this is relevant for those cases when such symptoms began to manifest themselves sharply, there were no prerequisites for this.

If a carburetor or some of its components suddenly fails, or its settings are lost, then the change in operation does not occur abruptly, but smoothly. Very often, the cause of floating idle speed is the solenoid valve, which is installed on the VAZ carburetor. If your car has a similar device in its design, then first of all you need to check it.

To do this, disconnect the wire that goes to it, then apply the positive signal to the valve contact battery. If the winding is working properly, a slight click will be heard. After this, the presence of voltage is checked on the wire that is connected to the solenoid valve. If there is no voltage, then there is damage to the wiring from the ignition switch to the solenoid valve.

Also, the symptoms described above may appear in cases where there is very large carbon deposits on the spark plug electrodes. As a result, the spark power is simply not enough to ignite the air-fuel mixture. If there is carbon deposits on the electrodes, then the carburetor itself should be blamed for this. The fact is that it supplies a lot of air-fuel mixture to the combustion chambers. The saddest reason for this is a burnt-out intake valve.

But don’t grab your head right away, first try to set the gasoline level in the VAZ 2101 carburetor. The float position must be adjusted correctly. Often the penny begins to stall and sneeze on high speed crankshaft. The carburetor, as a rule, has nothing to do with it. The reason lies in the gasoline supply. Diaphragm fuel pump or it could have already worn out, but most often the fuel pump rod wears out. You can read about it in a separate section.

How to set up a carburetor

Before you start adjusting the penny carburetor, you need to make sure that all components that affect the normal functioning of the engine internal combustion, are in good condition. Check the spark plugs, the gap between the electrodes, the distributor, the coil, high voltage wires. You can adjust the carburetor on a VAZ 2101 car only at engine operating temperature (85..90 degrees).

But before you start making adjustments, be sure to purchase a repair kit for the VAZ 2101. Moreover, pay attention to the fact that this repair kit matches your carburetor. If Solex is installed, then you do not need to buy a repair kit for DAAZ. Of course, the price of this set is not very high, but if you buy the wrong one, you will have to run around a little, exchanging for the right one. Disconnect the cable that connects the accelerator pedal to the drive throttle valve. The pipe connecting the air filter housing to the breather must also be disconnected.

Make sure that there is no vacuum in the hose connecting the carburetor to the advance angle adjuster on the distributor. Now you need to adjust the quality of the mixture. Screw in the screws one at a time until the engine begins to shake slightly. Now we need to achieve normal and most stable operation. To do this, unscrew the quality screws one by one. Do not make more than one turn. This adjustment is purely by ear, but it is quite possible to normally adjust the carburetor of a penny in this way.

To determine how well the adjustment has been made, open the throttle sharply and then close it immediately. If the speed increases sharply, there are no delays, then the carburetor is adjusted correctly. But the further operation of the VAZ 2101 will show more accurately. Carefully monitor how much gasoline is consumed per hundred kilometers. From time to time, check the condition of the spark plugs; if there is carbon deposits on them, adjust the air supply to the carburetor of the VAZ 2101.

One of the most common models in the country produced by AvtoVAZ can be considered the “eight” or its modification, the “nine”. Owners of VAZ 2108/2109 cars have been convinced in practice of the performance of their vehicles and their ease of maintenance. In order to prevent any malfunctions in the operation of the machine in a timely manner, you need to carefully monitor it. technical condition. One of the main tasks of the driver is to control the operation of the carburetor device on the VAZ. The car owner can perform almost all types of repairs and adjustments with his own hands, since the carburetor design has a simple structure.

Models of carburetors for VAZ 2108/2109

Carburetor mechanisms of the Solex series are produced at the Dimitrovgrad Automotive Accessory Plant. The structures are intended to be completed front wheel drive cars VAZ, in which the engine unit is located transverse to the body.

The standard model for equipping the VAZ 2108/2109 is the DAAZ 2108–1107–10 carburetor. It is paired with a 1.3-liter engine. Carburetors 21083–1107010 are installed on 1.5 liter engines.

The DAAZ carburetor is used to equip all cars of the eighth and ninth models

Modern equipment of the VAZ 2108/2109 is provided by carburetors of more advanced models, since they are equipped with a starting device in automatic mode:

    modification 21083–1107010–31 has one stage automatic control and start in a given mode;

    modification 21083–1107010–35 is equipped with two stages of air damper control, which ensures more stable operation power unit;

    modification 21083–1107010–62 is similar to the previous version of the carburetor mechanism, but has the addition of an electrical air-fuel mixture mixing system.

Solex design

The carburetor mechanism of all modifications on the VAZ 2108/2109 is emulsion and consists of two internal combustion chambers. At the top of the carburetor there is a cover that prevents dirt from entering the cavity of the device, and fittings - fuel lines are supplied to them. The middle part is the body itself, into which diffusers and cameras are mounted. At the bottom of the carburetor are the float chamber and throttle valves.

The key elements of the system are:

    accelerator pump;

    float;

    throttle thrust;

    forced idle economizer;

    main dosing system;

    trigger mechanism;

    econostat;

    vehicle idle system.

The principle of operation of the Solex carburetor is that gasoline is supplied through the inlet valve in the fitting. The fuel is sent immediately to float chamber. The fuel level in the cavity must always be at a certain level to avoid dips and jerks in engine operation. Level control is carried out through the movements of a needle valve mechanism.

After the chamber, gasoline is sent to emulsion wells, where it is supplied in a strictly limited quantities through fuel jets. It is in the wells that air flows break up large drops of gasoline, forming a single air-fuel mixture with it.

If you are interested in repairing the fuel pump in VAZ 2108/2109 cars, it is recommended that you study the following material in detail:

The mixture is supplied to diffusers, and through them to the power unit device. Thus, the main task of the carburetor is to form the air-fuel mixture in the desired consistency and direct it to the engine.

The interaction of many elements ensures smooth operation of the motor

For VAZ 2108 and 2109 you can purchase all the necessary spare parts for self-repair carburetor

The dampers (both air and throttle) cannot be removed unless necessary, as they are quite difficult to install back, which invariably leads to incorrect engine operation.

Repair instructions for Solex DAAZ 2108–1107–10

    The electromagnetic valve mechanism is carefully unscrewed from the device body, from which the nozzle inserted into it can be immediately pulled out.

    The jet is washed in a container with acetone and blown with compressed air from a can or pump.

    Then unscrew the five screws that hold the carburetor cover. The cover is removed strictly vertically upwards with a slow movement so as not to tear the float out of the chamber.

    The float is dismantled from its axis by pressing the awl onto the center line lock. The device can then be easily removed.

    The gasket must be removed from the bottom of the carburetor and inspected for damage and deformation. If there are pinched areas or breaks, the sealing element will need to be replaced.

    Use a spanner to open the fuel valve. It is recommended to immediately check its functionality. If, when you press the trigger, the needle moves easily and evenly, and has no play, then the valve does not need to be changed.

    Next comes checking the starter. You will need to unscrew the four screws that secure the device to the cover and remove the diaphragm from it. This product must retain its elastic properties and not have any damage or deformation. The return spring must be elastic.

    The fuel filter is unscrewed from its socket and placed in a container with acetone. After washing, it is recommended to blow it out and immediately screw it back in.

    It is best to remove the pump nozzles with a screwdriver. You need to pry them off and pull them out of the carburetor. The elements are placed in acetone for a while and then purged. It is recommended to immediately replace the rubber gaskets of the nozzles.

    Next, you can inspect the accelerator pump itself. You will need to unscrew the four screws that secure it, pull out the device and inspect its diaphragm and spring. It is best to immediately wash the pump parts; if the parts are severely worn, replace them.

    The economizer is checked and repaired in the same way.

    After which you can unscrew the jets. If the holes in them have become larger, it is better to immediately install new jets.

Unscrew the carburetor mounting screws

By performing all these steps step by step, you can qualitatively disassemble and repair the carburetor.

Carburetor diagnostics

The following characteristic signs may indicate that there are malfunctions in the carburetor:

    from the moment you press the gas pedal until the car accelerates there is a time gap;

    jerks in the operation of the power unit at high speeds;

    a series of jerks when moving on a flat surface;

    a noticeable decrease in vehicle speed characteristics;

    Fuel consumption has increased noticeably;

    the engine does not start well when cold;

    instability of the engine at idle speed.

Each of these signs, as well as their combination, indicates that the carburetor has a problem and needs repair or adjustment.

If there are fuel leaks, you need to tighten the connections. It is quite possible that it was the weakening of the connection that caused the carburetor to not work correctly.

What to do if the engine does not start or stalls immediately after starting

The probable cause of this malfunction is a decrease in the fuel level (or its absence) in the float tank. In addition, if the engine does not start, you should immediately inspect the engine compartment for gasoline leaks - it is quite possible that fuel is not getting into the carburetor. If this is not the case, then it is necessary to rinse the float chamber and set the float in an even position relative to its axis.

Unstable engine operation at idle

After the engine has been started or stopped after a long drive, dips may be observed in its operation. There may be several reasons for this behavior:

    the nozzle holes are heavily clogged;

    there was a malfunction in the economizer;

    Damage in the gasket of the quality screw.

One way or another, you will have to remove the carburetor, disassemble it and thoroughly wash all the parts. It is recommended to replace the sealing gaskets even with slight wear.

Difficulty starting in winter

Most VAZ2108/2109 car owners experience problems when starting the power unit at low temperatures. Difficulties can be caused by incorrect operation of the starting device. The choke closes too quickly, so the amount of air entering the emulsion channel may not be enough to prepare the air-fuel mixture. You will need to adjust the operation of the trigger yourself.

The engine is flooded

Due to excessive dosage, the float chamber may not withstand the load and supply an excessive amount of fuel to the system. This leads to the engine being flooded with gasoline and unable to perform its functions correctly. Functionality needs to be checked fuel valve and its tightness.

Sudden jerks when moving - what to do

If vehicle while driving suddenly experiences sudden jerks or jolts, the cause of the problem lies in the fuel supply system. The engine simply does not receive the volume of air-fuel mixture it needs. It is quite possible that the valve mechanisms have become depressurized or the filters are severely clogged.

How to remove the carburetor assembly from a VAZ 2108/2109

Removing the carburetor is necessary in almost all cases repair work. It is recommended to remove the device when the engine has cooled, since all work is carried out in close proximity to intake manifold and its pipes, which can easily get burned.

Video: DIY carburetor dismantling on a VAZ

To make work easier, it is best to immediately unscrew the screws securing the air filter box, as it will interfere with dismantling and prevent direct access:

  1. After this, you will need to disconnect two drives from the carburetor body (one goes to the air damper, the other goes to the throttle). In addition, it is immediately recommended to disconnect the return spring and its retainer from the drive.
  2. Next, the wire is disconnected from the forced idle economizer screw.
  3. After loosening the clamps, you will need to remove the fuel supply pipe and the hose that works “for return”.
  4. The screw securing the heating block is unscrewed and the block is removed.
  5. The ventilation hose and vacuum hose are disconnected from the fitting at the top of the carburetor.
  6. After disconnecting all lines, it is possible to dismantle the carburetor assembly itself. To do this, you will need to unscrew the four nuts that secure the carburetor with studs to the intake manifold. The device is pulled out along with the gasket.

How to flush a carburetor assembly without disassembling it

The traditional method of washing carburetors is to completely disassemble them into individual components, which is not always possible for an inexperienced VAZ owner to do. To simplify the procedure, a technique was created for washing and cleaning the carburetor without disassembling it into components. This technique is based on the use of special aerosols in cans. The most affordable carburetor cleaners are considered to be aerosols produced by ABRO and Mannol - they can be bought at any auto store for 100–150 rubles.

These cleaners do an excellent job of cleaning carburetor mechanisms, and they are also very easy to use. To flush the Solex carburetor, it is recommended to turn off the engine, let it cool and begin the procedure:

    Remove the air filter box from the car and place it to the side.

    Unscrew the solenoid valve from the carburetor body.

    Place a special narrow nozzle on the aerosol can and spray the liquid on the nozzle channels, the first and second chambers, dampers and all visible elements of the carburetor.

    After this, spray the aerosol on the external parts of the mechanism.

    If during one procedure the carburetor did not have time to be properly cleaned, then you can treat it again with the same aerosol.

After such cleaning, the VAZ 2108/2109 will significantly increase its dynamic characteristics, since the adhesion of dirt will not interfere with the normal operation of all parts of the carburetor.

How to replace carburetor parts

Replacing the float, accelerator pump diaphragm, and seals is not particularly difficult. Most often, during repairs, repair kits selected for the type of carburetor are used, which include everything necessary to replace the elements.

The replacement procedure is not regulated in any way: it is enough to remove the damaged part and install a new one in its place. Main criterion: identity of elements when replaced.

How to adjust Solex DAAZ 2108–1107–10

It is advisable to start the process of setting up and adjusting the performance of the carburetor mechanism from the float compartment. This is due to the fact that there is fuel here, the level of which must be strictly fixed. If the gasoline level is below or above normal, then adjusting other components becomes pointless.

Float adjustment

The adjustment procedure includes several steps:

    First start the engine and let it run for 3 minutes, then turn it off.

    Remove the air filter box and put it aside, as it prevents free access to the carburetor.

    The first step is to disconnect the pipe through which gasoline is supplied from the Solex body.

    Use a flathead screwdriver to unscrew the five screws on the cover to remove it.

    Measure the distance from the edge of the float chamber to the fuel level. It should be equal to 25.5 mm. If there are differences, you will need to set required parameter by bending the float bracket.

    You will also need to set the axis of the float so that it can move freely.

    The adjustment of the float chamber and float is now considered complete.

Adjusting the starter

You can adjust the carburetor on the VAZ 2108 and 2109, as well as repair it yourself. This work should be performed on the carburetor, which has been removed from the engine and installed on a flat surface. If the trigger diaphragm was damaged, then it is necessary to initially replace it and only then begin adjustment work:

    Turn the air damper adjustment lever and close it completely.

    Lower the trigger rod with the blade of a screwdriver and hold it in this position.

    Measure the width of the gap between the damper and the chamber wall. The existing indicator should be 1 mm. If this is not the case, then adjustments will be required.

    You will need to loosen the lock nut, which is located on the surface of the accelerator pump, and at the same time turn the quality screw with a screwdriver. If you turn the screw in one direction, the gap will increase, and if you turn it in the other direction, it will decrease.

    Measure the gap thickness again.

    The air damper on the second chamber is adjusted using the same principle.

You can measure the gap width using a drill with a diameter of 1 mm

How to adjust idle speed

This procedure can only be carried out on a carburetor installed in the car, after the engine has warmed up well. Wherein air filter will no longer impede access, so it remains in its place under the hood:

    Turn off the engine.

    Tighten the air-fuel mixture quality screw all the way, and then unscrew it no more than four turns.

    Start the engine again, simultaneously turn on all the lighting, acoustics and heater to increase energy consumption.

    Working with the quantity screw, you need to set the number of revolutions of the running motor to 750–800 per minute.

    The quality screw sets the maximum idle speed - 900 rpm (in winter, this parameter can be increased to 1000 rpm).

    After this, you will need to tighten the quality screw back until interruptions in engine operation are felt. At this moment you will need to stop and make one revolution back.

Adjusting the idle speed on the VAZ 2108/2109 is necessary to ensure that the car exhibits stable operation in the set mode without high consumption of the air-fuel mixture.

This material will help you independently repair and replace the muffler in VAZ 2108/2109 cars:

Carburetor tuning

Not all owners of VAZ 2108/2109 cars know that you can modify the carburetor yourself. Tuning will not only increase the resource of the power unit, but also increase speed characteristics cars. To do this, you will need to ensure a decrease in the resistance of the air flow that is sucked into the carburetor.

To carry out tuning, it is necessary to remove the carburetor, clean it inside and outside to ensure full operation of all its components.

After which it is necessary to remove all the jets and throttle valves from the housing. The cavities of the two internal combustion chambers must be enlarged using a lathe. The larger the volume of the chamber, the less air resistance there will be. And also, simultaneously with boring the chambers, it is recommended to increase the cavity of the diffusers. It is better to entrust work on the machine to a specialist, since this is the only way to avoid damage to the housing.

In addition, you will need to select new jets with larger diameter holes. It is recommended to install fuel and air nozzles with an increase in the opening by 0.05 mm. This is quite enough to increase the throughput of carburetor parts.

In addition, you can change the needle on the economizer device. It is best to replace it with a rubber product. Rubber needle withstands longer duty high loads and has an increased service life. Only such equipment will allow you to get rid of the engine freezing when you sharply press the gas pedal.

Increasing internal cavities minimizes air resistance

Reassembling the Solex in reverse order

Installation of the carburetor mechanism on the intake manifold is possible after washing and repair, as well as some adjustment steps. It is important to connect all fuel and other hoses correctly so that there are no problems with engine operation. The DAAZ 2108–1107–10 carburetor is assembled in the following order:

    A gasket is applied to the installation site. It serves to reliably connect two units - the carburetor and the intake manifold.

    After this, the carburetor itself is threaded onto the studs and secured with four nuts.

    After the assembly has been carefully attached, hoses can be connected. The first step is to connect the vacuum and ventilation hoses.

    On one side the fuel supply pipe is connected, on the other - the return hose for supplying excess fuel.

    The EPHH drive wire is connected to the corresponding screw.

    To complete the work, you can screw two wires (air and throttle valves) to the screws.

The strict connection sequence is due to the design features of the carburetor

After installing the carburetor, it is recommended to turn on the ignition and check the performance of the engine unit. If oil or fuel leaks occur at the hose connections, turn off the ignition and carefully check all connections.

All work that a car owner performs to maintain his car must be conscious. There is no need to disassemble the carburetor and replace its parts if there are no observed obvious signs malfunctions. In addition, when self-adjusting, it is necessary to adhere to clear rules of action. Both poor-quality repairs and incorrect adjustments can seriously affect the performance of the carburetor.

Step 1. Removing the carburetor from a VAZ 2107 car

If you need to replace the carburetor on a VAZ 2107 or repair the carburetor yourself, first you need to remove the carburetor from the VAZ 2107 car, because it will be much more convenient to repair the carburetor.

Therefore, let's move on to removing the carburetor:

1.1. We remove the air filter housing, disconnect the crankcase gas recirculation system tubes, unscrew the starter drive and fuel line, disconnect the gas drive, return spring and vacuum ignition timing tube. Disconnect the power supply to the solenoid valve and the connectors of the EPHH system (if it is installed on carburetor VAZ 2107).

1.2. Disconnect the telescopic rod of the starting system, unscrew top part carburetor housing and remove from the car.

1.3. Unscrew the 4 carburetor mounting nuts and remove the lower and middle parts from the car.

1.4. After removing the carburetor, remove the manifold gasket and cover the manifold with a spacer made of cardboard (or other material), thereby protecting the intake manifold from foreign objects!

The process for installing a new carburetor occurs in the reverse order of removal.

Important: Do not tighten the bolts too much, the approximate force is (6.6–15.4 N m). Also, if possible, change all the gaskets on the carburetor with new ones, because they quickly become unusable from the effects of gasoline and other negative factors, and you yourself know first-hand about the quality of Russian spare parts. Although if the gasket under the 2107 carburetor is still in order, you can leave it, but it is better, of course, to change all the gaskets on the 2107 carburetor.

Step 2. Disassembling the VAZ 2107 carburetor

2.1. We disassemble the upper part of the carburetor, remove the starting diaphragm, its rod and housing, remove the float and needle valve, unscrew the filter plug and remove it.

2.2. Dismantling the middle and lower parts of the carburetor can begin by removing the vacuum drive of the second chamber, then remove the jets of the main and auxiliary systems and emulsion tubes, remove the accelerator pump diaphragm (be careful not to lose the springs), remove the accelerator pump nozzle and small diffusers.

Important: If you have little experience in repairing carburetors on a VAZ 2107, then I recommend writing down the digital designations of the jets and their installation locations.

2.3. We disconnect the throttle valves and the middle part, be careful not to lose the starting rod and spring when disassembling this unit!

2.4. Remove the idle quantity assembly (“bullet”) and unscrew the quality screw. This concludes the disassembly; also during disassembly, the VAZ 2107 carburetor gaskets and rubber seals of the screws and connections are removed.

Here is an excellent video from Nail Poroshin about complete maintenance, disassembly and assembly of the Ozone 2107-1107010 carburetor:

Step 3. Cleaning the VAZ 2107 carburetor

3.1. Place small parts and jets, emulsion tubes, nozzles, quality screws in a jar of acetone for 15-20 minutes, then take them out with tweezers and clean them with toothpicks (remove carbon deposits from the air jets of the main system), blow them with compressed air.

Place the washed parts on a clean surface, preferably light cotton fabric.

3.2. Place the carburetor body parts, diaphragm caps and nozzles in a container with solvent or gasoline for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with a brush and blow with compressed air, then also place in a clean container.

3.3. We place the fasteners and hardware in a specially prepared container and rinse them too, drain the solvent, then leave them in the container until assembly.

3.4. We check the vacuum drive mechanism of the 2nd chamber for leaks and do not disassemble it; to wash it, just wash it in gasoline and wipe it with a rag.

Useful video on cleaning the carburetor from dirt and carbon deposits:

Step 4. “Puncture” the carburetor

This operation is designed to check for blockages in the channels of the main and auxiliary carburetor systems. The puncture is done with a 10-20 cc syringe filled with gasoline. For example, gasoline is supplied to the idle channel under pressure from a syringe and after the gasoline has flowed out of the channel, we can judge its throughput and cleanliness. In order to understand how the “puncture” of the VAZ 2107 carburetor occurs, you should familiarize yourself in detail with the structure of this carburetor in specialized literature.

Step 5. How to assemble a VAZ 2107 carburetor

5.1. I recommend starting the carburetor assembly from the middle part with the installation of emulsion tubes and fuel and air jets, nozzles and small diffusers. You can connect all the elements of the carburetor without any problems by watching the video that you will find below.

5.2. The lower part of the throttle bodies is attached to the partially assembled middle section. Do not forget to install the starting rod and spring, between the lower and middle parts, the rod is installed just before connecting these parts.

5.3. After connecting the lower and upper parts, we install the accelerating diaphragm and the vacuum drive of the second chamber, screws for the quality and quantity of the mixture.

5.4. We start assembling the upper part by installing a cardboard gasket, then screw on the needle valve and install the float, install the filter, screw it on, and plug the filter.

5.5. We assemble the starting diaphragm assembly and install it, not forgetting to put the starting rod and rubber seal between the body and the part, and hang the telescopic rod.

5.6. All diaphragm seals and gaskets are replaced with new ones, with the exception of the vacuum drive of the second chamber (if it is working properly).

Step 6. Checking the carburetor starting system

6.1. Checking the starting system is carried out with the assembled carburetor removed (the screws of the top cover do not need to be tightened, just hold them with your hands). We remove the trigger manually and check the width of the gap to which the shutter of the first chamber opens, the distance should be 0.8 mm, this gap is adjusted by the trigger rod, bending or straightening it, we can achieve a change in this gap. Next, we simulate the operation of the starting diaphragm and move it manually to the extreme position, while the starting flap (upper part of the carburetor) should open a gap of approximately 5 mm.

6.2. Checking the fuel level and tightness of the needle valve and accelerator pump.

6.2.1. We install the assembled middle and lower parts of the carburetor on the car (without tightening), install the upper part (without tightening), connect the fuel line and pump in gasoline with a fuel pump. We fill the float chamber and remove the upper part and monitor the fuel level; if the fuel level is higher or lower, then we bring it back to normal. We set the throttle valve in motion and check the operation of the accelerator injector and the tightness of the fuel pump, and if necessary, eliminate leaks.

Step 7. Installing a carburetor on a VAZ 2107

7.1. We also begin installing the carburetor on a VAZ 2107 by installing the middle and lower parts on a new manifold gasket, then we pull the carburetor to the manifold, install the recirculation pipes and the vacuum ignition timing drive (EPHH system), the throttle valve drive and the return spring.

7.2. We install the upper part of the carburetor, connect the telescopic rod, fuel line and starting device.

Step 8. Starting and adjusting the carburetor

8.1. Before starting and adjusting, you need to be 100% sure of the serviceability of the ignition system and the correct setting of the ignition timing!

8.2. We turn on the carburetor starting mechanism (the mixture quantity screw is in the middle position, the quality screw is unscrewed 3 turns).

8.3. As it warms up, we push back the starter damper to its maximum value. A warm engine should run steadily at 850-900 rpm.

8.4. We adjust the carburetor of the VAZ 2107 using the idle speed screw, if the speed is not even, then we add the quality screw until the idle speed is leveled, if the speed is even initially, then we try to reduce the quality of the mixture, achieving slight unevenness of operation, then we even out the speed. The carburetor should be adjustable; if this does not happen, drill out the plug in the middle part and make additional adjustments with the second quality screw.

8.5. To make precise adjustments, we use a CO gas analyzer; a working carburetor has a CO value of Idling, ranges from 1% to 2.5%.

Probably, more than one driver of a VAZ 2107 has encountered such a nuisance as carburetor repair. Despite the fact that models with this type of engine power have not been produced for a long time, many car enthusiasts still remain devoted to their “carburetor” cars. That is why the problem of disassembling it with your own hands remains relevant to this day.

What is a carburetor

The carburetor is an indispensable part of the VAZ 2107 car. It helps it start the engine by mixing gasoline and air, controlling their quantity. Thus, there is control over the fuel content in this mixture, which is called air-fuel.

The main elements of the carburetor are:

  • fuel container or float chamber;
  • float with a special needle shut-off valve;
  • spray;
  • main body part (mixing chamber);
  • narrowing of the carburetor air neck - diffuser;
  • air and throttle valves;
  • fuel and air channels with jet holes.

Possible causes of malfunction

It is impossible to determine at first glance why the carburetor broke down in your VAZ 2107. This mechanism is so complex that only with a detailed examination can you understand the cause of the breakdown in order to make repairs. Let's look at the most common problems.

  • leaky connection between the carburetor and the exhaust pipe;
  • insufficient amount of fuel in the float chamber;
  • dirty jets and channels;
  • the float has gone astray.

You can easily fix all this if you do the repairs yourself, without the help of professionals.

How to remove the carburetor?

In order for the engine of your VAZ 2107 to work like new again, it is necessary to repair the carburetor, that is, disassemble it.

First remove the air filter. Now there is nothing stopping you from wiping the carburetor. Do this with a damp cloth, and if it is very dirty, use a special engine cleaner. Unscrew the choke cable a few turns.

Loosen the cable sheath bolt, which can now be easily removed.

Remove the exhaust hose to remove crankcase gases.

Unscrew the fuel hose and carefully remove it from the fitting. The hole in the fuel hose must be plugged. This can be done with a regular bolt.

Disconnect the vacuum regulator hose that serves to advance the ignition.

Disconnect the economizer that enriches the fuel mixture and the pneumatic valve.

Remove the microswitch from the terminals.

Using a screwdriver, press the tip away from the drive rod that the throttle valve has.

The next step is to remove the return spring of this damper.

Remove the carburetor from the intake manifold pipe.

Unscrew the remaining fastener and remove the carburetor.

Now you should pay attention to the condition of the gasket. Replace it if it is worn or damaged.

Detailed analysis

By removing the carburetor body, you can completely disassemble it. Since we have already removed the return spring, unscrew the three-arm lever.

Hold it securely while twisting the return spring mounting bracket.

Now you can remove the lever, its spring and rod. Remove the throttle valve housings.

The housing of the fuel hole-nozzle must also be unscrewed.

Wash these parts by removing the rubber element from the body. Replace this part if necessary.

In the VAZ 2107 (accelerator) pump, unscrew the bolt. Remove the cover complete with diaphragm and spring from the pump.

If you find a slight bend, insert drills into the adapter tubes before correcting it. They must fit into the holes with force, that is, be smaller in diameter than this hole. Now remove these tubes using regular pliers.

If the surface is slightly distorted, you can use a vice to eliminate it. The jaws should be placed in the vice, under which it is recommended to place sheets of plywood. In case of severe deformation, it is recommended to carefully repair the case - tap the case with a carpenter's hammer. Now level the surface with a wide file. In order not to cut off excess, control your actions using a ruler - periodically apply it to the body. Now rinse the body in acetone and you can reassemble the VAZ 2107 carburetor in the reverse order.

Having repaired such a complex mechanism with your own hands, now you are not afraid of any breakdowns in your car.

This article is part of a series of 9 lessons dedicated to 7 carburetors. To view all nine lessons, follow the link:

Even in the recent past, before the advent of injectors, VAZ cars were equipped with several types of carburetors, namely Solex, Ozone and Weber. Throughout the entire period of operation I heard a lot about them positive feedback, and over time the popularity of these models only increased.

Operation of carburetors from several different manufacturers carried out according to the same principle, and they are designed to create a fuel-air mixture and feed it into the combustion chamber, where the mixture itself ignites.

2. Needle-shaped.

3. Bubbler – used relatively rarely.

  • The main thing to do is to carefully inspect the device, then thoroughly clean and wash it, removing dirt and other imperfections.
  • Wash the float chamber and clean the strainer.
  • Remove blockages from air jets.
  • Adjust the float system, trigger and idle speed.

Below you can watch a video on how to repair a VAZ 2107 carburetor with your own hands.

To remove the accelerator pump from the carburetor, unscrew the four fastening screws of its cover, and then another screw that directly secures the accelerator pump itself. Then remove it from the housing.

Quite often, adjusting the carburetor does not help its normal operation. And in these cases, you need to disassemble it and check what’s wrong. The VAZ 2107 carburetor, the repair of which is inevitable, involves the following actions:

  • the return spring should be removed;
  • Unscrew the screw securing the three-arm lever with a curly screwdriver;
  • remove the spring bracket (be sure to hold the screw);
  • then the lever and spring are removed along with the rod;
  • Unscrew the throttle valve mounting screws;
  • remove the damper body;
  • Unscrew the fuel nozzle body using a screwdriver with a wide blade;
  • remove the body;
  • remove the jet;
  • after this, you need to remove the rubber o-ring from the body;
  • rinse the nozzle and body (use acetone for this);
  • blow out the nozzle with compressed air (you can use an ordinary pump with a special needle);
  • change the rubber ring (if it is damaged).

Here you can take a break and carefully inspect the carburetor. Repairing the VAZ 2107 does not like to rush. It is advisable to carry out everything slowly, concentrating on each stage of the work. This video will help you see everything with your own eyes

  • remove the heat-insulating gasket;
  • unscrew the accelerator pump valve;
  • the valve is removed along with the sprayer and metal gaskets of the sealing type.

It is believed that the simplest system is that of the VAZ 2107. Repairing the carburetor with your own hands, in this case, will take place without any particular difficulties. The main thing is to strictly follow the instructions:

  • all removed parts, including the sprayer, are washed in acetone (pure gasoline can also be used);
  • blow the parts with compressed air;
  • unscrew the air type jets.
  • remove the emulsion tubes of the dosing system (you can use a tap if they do not fall out on their own);
  • unscrew the fuel jets together with the housing;
  • separate the fuel jets from the body;
  • unscrew the adjusting screw in the accelerator pump;
  • remove the diaphragm and clean it;
  • also inspect tubes that may be deformed (straightening with a wooden mallet will help);
  • put everything back in place, following in reverse order.

Following this step by step instructions, you can repair the carburetor yourself. The price for these services from a master is not cheap. Therefore, adjusting and repairing the carburetor on your own has become important in our time.

  1. We compress the spring of the telescopic rod of the starting device...
  2. ...we disconnect it from the three-arm choke lever.
  3. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the five screws securing the top cover...
  4. ...and, holding the gasket, remove the cover (do not lose the screws).
  5. Turn the top cover over with the float facing up and check the needle for leaks. To do this, we put a rubber hose on the fuel supply fitting and create a vacuum with our mouth or bulb. A faulty or clogged needle will not hold the vacuum - the pear will straighten out.
  6. Remove the telescopic rod from the top cover.
  7. Use a thin beard or a suitable pin to knock out the float axis.
  8. Raise the float...
  9. ...remove the needle from the float stop.
  10. Next, remove the top cover gasket.
  11. Using a 10mm wrench, unscrew the needle valve seat.
  12. There is a soft metal sealing washer under the seat.

We examine the cone of the needle for development (in the form of a rim at the tip). If we do not find any signs of wear, then we wash the valve and seat (first wash fuel filter) and check the needle tightness again. We replace the faulty and worn needle with a new one.

  1. We pry with an awl and remove the retaining ring of the pneumatic drive of the throttle valve of the second chamber.
  2. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the two screws securing the pneumatic drive housing to the carburetor body...
  3. ...remove the pneumatic actuator with the gasket.

We check the pneumatic drive in the same way as the starting device and if there is a malfunction, change the diaphragm of the pneumatic drive in the same way as the starting device.

We press on the diaphragm rod and close the inlet channel with our finger.

4. Release the locknut on the rod...

We insert the finger into the rod and secure the connection with a locking ring.

6. Press on the pneumatic actuator rod, recessing the rod into the diaphragm mechanism housing. (When the shutter of the first chamber is closed, the second should remain closed).

In frequent cases, a malfunction of the pneumatic drive is caused by insufficient tightness of the channels through which vacuum is supplied to the diaphragm. In this case, you need to check the lower surface of the carburetor body (see Disassembling and repairing the carburetor body). When tightening the carburetor mounting nuts, the plane can be “moved” under the influence of temperature.

  1. Remove the return spring.
  2. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the bolt securing the three-arm lever...
  3. ...and, holding the lever, remove the spring mounting bracket.
  4. We remove the lever from the body along with the rod...
  5. ...and also a spring.
  6. Unscrew the two bolts securing the throttle body...
  7. ...and separate the throttle body.
  8. Using a screwdriver with a wide blade, unscrew the housing of the fuel nozzle of the idle system.
  9. Let's take it out.
  10. We remove the jet.
  11. Remove the rubber O-ring from the housing.
