How to change the interior heating radiator on a Kalina. How to replace the heating radiator on a Lada Kalina yourself

Thanks to the stove in the car, comfortable conditions are created for the driver and passengers in winter time. It is very important that it works flawlessly. Sometimes heating problems that arise can only be solved by replacing the stove radiator with a Lada Kalina. The article examines the main problems of the radiator and provides recommendations for its selection and replacement.

Features of choosing a stove radiator

The stove has a simple design. Its main element is the heater radiator. During the first 20-30 minutes, the engine heats the coolant to a temperature of 40-50 degrees, and then it circulates through the cooling system and enters the heater radiator. Warm air is distributed throughout the cabin using fans.

There are two types of heaters installed on cars:

  • copper;
  • aluminum.

Each type, depending on the properties of the material, has its own advantages. The thermal conductivity of copper is less than that of aluminum, so it heats up more slowly. But it also retains heat for a long time. Copper products have high maintainability and can be soldered a large number of times.

Aluminum, on the contrary, heats up quickly and cools down quickly. The disadvantage of an aluminum radiator is low resistance to mechanical damage and non-repairability. If it leaks, it should be replaced. The advantage of aluminum devices is their low cost.

When choosing a heating device, you should pay attention to whether it has partitions. Sometimes they are removed after renovation. Besides, good radiator must have plastic liquid swirlers. They are visible if you look into the pipe. Thanks to these plates, the efficiency of the device increases by 25%.

In any case, it is better to buy original products to avoid fakes. The car owner decides which radiator is best to purchase.

Major part malfunctions

The most common causes of radiator malfunctions are:

  1. Clogging of channels and honeycombs, which leads to an increase in pressure, results in a breakdown of the tube from the inside.
  2. Flow. The device may leak due to an air lock.
  3. Wear. During operation, the pipes wear out.

The most dangerous failure is a leak; it can occur in one or several places. Leaks can be detected by visually inspecting the system as a whole and the connections. A leak in a copper radiator can be eliminated by soldering; the aluminum product will have to be replaced.

Two common replacement methods

There are two ways to replace a stove radiator. The first method does not require removing the panel. The second method is described in the Lada Kalina operating manual. It involves complete dismantling of the torpedo (the author of the video is Gaz0014).

First method (without removing the panel)

When using the method without dismantling the panel, you must perform the following steps:

  1. First of all, the car is de-energized by removing the negative terminal from the battery.
  2. After unscrewing the 4 bolts, remove the cover from the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the pedal covers.
  4. After pressing the accelerator pedal all the way, you need to unscrew the brake pedal mounts.
  5. Now you need to remove the radiator pipes.
  6. Next, use a hacksaw to saw off the bottom of the panel.
  7. Now you can dismantle the radiator.
  8. Before installation, the pipes should be shortened by 1.5 - 2 cm to make it easier to install the new device.
  9. Next, the hoses are put on.
  10. Assembly is carried out in reverse order. The sawn-off part of the panel is returned to its place.

Second way

The method of completely dismantling the torpedo is more complex and time-consuming.

To perform the work, you should prepare the following tools and materials:

  • set of wrenches;
  • screwdrivers;
  • new radiator.

The second method consists of the following steps:

  1. Before removing the dashboard, it is necessary to dismantle the decorative trim.
  2. Next, unscrew the screws on both sides of the torpedo.
  3. Then the trim from the instrument panel under the windshield is removed.
  4. At the next stage, the air duct grilles are dismantled.
  5. Next, you need to dismantle the trim, which contains the organs that control the air conditioner and stove.
  6. When the trim is removed, you can unscrew the two screws that secure the instrument panel and remove it.
  7. To avoid damage, the electronic unit controls need to be moved to the side.
  8. The torpedo is removed after unscrewing the 9 nuts securing it to the body of the Lada Kalina.
  9. After dismantling the torpedo, the heating radiator is accessible.
  10. At the next step, the screws securing the stove casing are unscrewed and the pipes are disconnected.
  11. Now you can remove the old one and install a new heating device.
  12. After installing a new radiator, assembly is performed in the reverse order.

The most difficult part is dismantling the dashboard, since you have to remove a lot of parts and touch the wiring. Having returned all the parts to their place, you need to start the engine, let it warm up and check the operation of the stove.

Conclusion

On average, a heating radiator on a Lada Kalina lasts for 3 to 4 years without repair. After this time, you should prepare to replace it, you need to prepare a new product and find out how to change the stove radiator. Which of the two methods to use is up to each driver to decide for himself. You can use the services of a car service. By doing the replacement yourself, you can save repair costs.

According to the manufacturer's regulations, replacing the heater radiator on Kalina involves removing the dashboard. But since the stove radiators are quite weakness on this car, the people of Kulibin have found a lot of solutions for replacing the stove radiator on Kalina without removing the panel.

Having studied the Internet, I chose for myself one, at first glance, of the most interesting and worthy options for replacing the heater without any cutting out of the elements of the stove body. It consists of turning the radiator in the opposite direction.

But, with a small addition.

I selected the transition hose between the pipes and the metal corner with the same diameter, but with a 90-degree bend, thus the loop from the long hose should be smaller.

Also, not finding a brass corner with a diameter of 18, I purchased a plastic one.

Everything was ready for the upcoming work: hoses, angles, a new radiator for the Kalina stove. But, after surfing the Internet, I came to the final conclusion that for the safety of the driver’s feet, the ends of the radiator should extend under the hood space, and this can only be achieved by removing the dashboard or sawing off the heater housing.

As a reasonable person, I, of course, decided to cut it.

The car is in the garage, let's get to work. We start with the engine compartment.

Remove the battery and air duct.

The next step is to remove the battery plate, but first we unscrew the bracket of the intricate bracket that holds the fuel pipes. He, in turn, stays firmly on the court, or rather to the left under it. Having freed the tubes, we remove the platform.

Next, drain the antifreeze. Unscrew the clamp from the return line on the expansion tank, the heating hose clamp throttle valve. We put the damper hose into the canister, plug the return hose with a finger. And we push air into the tank through the return nipple using a compressor. In this case, the expansion tank cap must be tightly closed. And we blow until air comes out into the canister.

Now we remove the hoses from the engine and drain the remaining coolant that remains in the heater radiator under the car, preferably into a container prepared for this purpose.

We've sorted out the antifreeze, let's move on to plumbing work.

We take a long socket for ten, a cardan and an extension cord with a ratchet. We will unscrew the radiator bracket nut.

The pin on which the nut is screwed is quite long, and it is located in a very inconvenient place.

Some people, after dismantling the bracket, shorten this pin; I did not do this.

Having unscrewed the nut, we go into the car interior.

All actions will take place from the driver's side. Remove the side decorative trim of the center console under the dashboard.

We dismantle the gas pedal, which is held in place by three ten-point nuts, and disconnect the gas cable.

Now you need to disconnect the brake pedal from the master cylinder rod. Remove the fixing bracket and remove the finger. We unscrew the so-called “frog”, the brake light end switch, as far as possible, pull the pedal towards you and move the rod of the brake master cylinder to the side and immediately lower the pedal. Now the brake pedal can be lowered all the way to the mat.

Having freed the working space from the pedals, we proceed to carpentry work, namely: sawing. We move and bend the radiator bracket to the side so that its tubes can be conveniently cut.

You can take a regular metal blade, and I’ll use a clever tool that I have.

We saw off these tubes at the root. The remaining antifreeze will flow, but there would be more of it if we had not removed the hoses. The sawn-off tubes with hoses can be pulled out from under the hood so that they are out of the way.

Now you need to make a cut in the side of the stove body to pull out the old stove radiator.

We remove the brake pedal and the radiator comes out into the light without much effort.

Attention! My desire to cause as little damage as possible to the stove body did not lead to anything good in the future. When installing a new radiator, the resulting corner crushed the honeycomb very badly.

So I had to cut that corner. Maybe the radiator honeycomb will be irrelevant to someone, so you can cut a thin opening. And if you still feel sorry for the new radiator, it is better to immediately make a cut lower, along the red line.

But the new radiator is reluctant to fit into such an opening. The clutch pedal is in the way. Therefore, we press the brake and clutch pedal with one hand. With the other hand, we place the rear part of the radiator into the opening and then push it into the opening until it stops. We insert the tubes into the hole in the body, pushing them forward with the tubes, and push the radiator all the way. Don't forget to put a bracket with a seal on the tubes. Yes, the new radiator was not covered with foam rubber. Therefore, in order to prevent air from passing past the radiator, I covered it myself.

Attention! Do not glue a very thick layer of foam rubber on the opposite end of the radiator from the pipes. The radiator fits very tightly into the seat in the opposite wall.

So, the new radiator is in place, you can seal the cut holes. We install the plastic parts in their rightful place, and seal the cracks formed as a result of cutting with hot glue. I want to say that it turned out pretty strong.

We assemble the brake and gas pedal to its initial state. We install the decorative panel.

Now let's move under the hood.

Screw the nut onto the stud and tighten it. Do not pull too hard; the bracket, being attracted to the body, pulls the radiator along with it. The seams of the stove body may come apart.

After tightening the nut, put on the stove hoses. My hoses were in unsatisfactory condition, so I decided to replace them with ordinary reinforced hoses, purchased earlier for another stove radiator replacement scheme.

It is very inconvenient to tighten the clamps; make sure that they are located after the thickening on the radiator tube, otherwise the hoses may fly off during operation. Having installed the heater hoses, put on the return pipes and fill in antifreeze. We release air through the damper hose. IN expansion tank Fill in a little more antifreeze than the maximum. We collect all the other previously dismantled parts and start the engine of the Kalina car. Warm up until the radiator fan comes on. It would be a good idea to use gas to expel unnecessary air from the cooling system.

Check for leaks from connections. If they are, then we eliminate them by tightening the clamps. If they are not there, you can close the hood.

Thank you for your attention. A comfortable atmosphere for you in the car during the cold season.

The stove is responsible for the heat inside the car. If any problems arise with heating, you immediately need to figure out what, in fact, is the reason for the lack of heat. This article will talk about how to repair and replace.

Location and principle of operation of the stove

With the onset of cold weather, many motorists are faced with the problem of heating their car. This is a very common breakdown, in which it makes being in it insufficiently comfortable. Let's first figure out how our stove works. The operating principle of the heater is as follows:

  1. Through air filter air from the street first enters the air intake. Then, using electric fans, it is driven inside the air ducts.
  2. The intake air is heated using a heater (heater radiator), which is located under the protective panel.
  3. While the engine is running, heated coolant circulates through the radiator, thereby heating the air flowing through it.
  4. Adjustment of the air supply speed, as well as temperature adjustment and damper control is carried out using a control unit located in the central part of the dashboard.

The location of the stove on Kalina is convenient; it is located in the central part of the torpedo. The control of the switching mechanisms is quite simple, carried out by four regulators. can be divided into several stages: diagnostics and troubleshooting, disassembly and assembly of necessary mechanisms and repair (replacement) of failed parts.

Main causes of malfunction

If, with the onset of cold weather, no heat is supplied to the interior when the heater is on, then you need to figure out what is causing this. The main causes of failure may be:

  • Thermostat malfunction;
  • Heater radiator leaking;
  • Air in the cooling system.

The main cause of the malfunction is a leak in the heater radiator

The most dangerous failure is a leak, which can occur in several places simultaneously. It is discovered when visual inspection system, as well as connection points. A copper radiator can be repaired by soldering the leaking areas, but an aluminum radiator will have to be replaced.

Methods for dismantling the stove

There are two options for eliminating this problem: without removing the control panel and with removal.

First option

Novice motorists often wonder: how to remove? Let's look at this issue in more detail. To perform such work, the vehicle must be driven onto an overpass or inspection ditch. When starting work, you should prepare tools, namely: screwdrivers (Phillips and flat), a wrench with a set of socket heads and a container for draining the coolant. First of all, unscrew the clamps securing the radiator pipes and drain the coolant into our container. Next, we disconnect the connections of the gearshift rod with the gearbox (gearbox). After completing these works, you can proceed to work inside the car.

We remove the front seats, this will give us more space for maneuvers. Now you need to remove the gear shift mechanism assembled with the drive (to do this, you need to loosen the gearbox linkage clamp under the hood and remove it from engagement with the rocker). Then, in the cabin, unscrew the bolts securing the gear shift mechanism to the floor, and then pull out the entire unit. Next, remove the center console by unscrewing the four nuts and two bolts securing it to the floor, and remove the air flow distributor casing. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the screws securing the heater protective casing. After completing all this work, we got to the stove radiator, which can now easily be replaced with a new one. We perform assembly in reverse order.

Second option

It is complex and labor-intensive, as it involves disassembling and dismantling the control panel. Before removing the torpedo, the decorative trim is removed, after which the screws of the torpedo itself are unscrewed. Then the trims and air duct grilles are removed from the dashboard. Now you can begin to remove the lining that controls the climate systems (stove, air conditioner), after which it is dismantled dashboard. To prevent damage to the ECU, it is carefully moved to the side. To remove the torpedo you will have to unscrew the nine nuts holding it to the body. Removing the torpedo opens up access to the radiator, which allows you to disconnect the pipes, unscrew the fasteners and remove the old equipment, replacing it with new one.

Results

As you can see, driving a car is not as difficult as it seemed at first glance. All you need is time and a little patience. Good luck and may your cars not break down.

Hello, dear readers! The topic that will be discussed will be of more interest to owners of the Lada Kalina car. Winter is a harsh time. But severe frosts are not scary if the car heater is in good condition. However, if the unit breaks down and the stove is leaking, then the problem needs to be solved as quickly as possible. We will tell you how to properly carry out Lada Kalina.

Getting ready for repairs

The heating system not only provides comfortable conditions in the cabin, but also blows on the windows. If you can still somehow be in a cold cabin, then driving a car with frozen windows is generally unrealistic. They install reliably and heat perfectly. However, like any part, the heater can break. The most vulnerable spot is the radiator.

The moment when this device fails is easy to notice. As soon as the stove stops heating, and puddles of antifreeze appear in the cabin, it’s time to remove the unit.

The stove usually starts to leak in winter. This happens due to the fact that at this time of year the temperature difference is the most noticeable. The unit is located in a niche 54x198 mm to the right of driver's seat, just below the radio. dimensions devices 240x195x50 mm. Made of plastic and aluminum.

The location of the unit is extremely inconvenient, so removing it and then replacing it will take a lot of time. It is difficult to do the work alone. It is better to invite friends - 2-3 people who will not only help, but also tell you how to remove this or that part. Tools and materials:

  • Set of screwdrivers and keys;
  • Set of heads (for 7, 8, 10 and 13);
  • Pliers or pliers;
  • Hacksaw for metal;
  • Reinforced hose with a diameter of 20 mm (3–4 m).

The workplace should be well lit. Additionally, you will need a hose to drain the coolant.
There are several options. Let's consider each method separately.

Replacing the radiator by removing the dashboard

This method is considered optimal and recommended by the manufacturer. To carry out the operation, it is necessary to remove the front panel or the so-called torpedo. Not many people will find this method successful, since to implement it you will need to disassemble half the car. Therefore, it is better to change the radiator using this method in service center where there is special equipment.

Replacing the radiator without removing the dashboard

This method is much more suitable for the conditions of a regular garage. Here are step-by-step instructions.
Step 1. Drain the antifreeze.
Step 2. Remove the steering wheel columns.
Step 3. Pull out the pedal and turn it to the side (bend the tongue a little reverse, creating a stop for the sensor).
Step 4. Remove the stopper axis.
Step 5. Remove the casing.
Step 6. Remove.
Step 7. Remove the current radiator and replace it with a new one.
Step 8. We assemble in the reverse order.

Replacing a radiator by cutting out air ducts

A good method used when a quick replacement of the Kalina stove radiator is necessary. The essence of the method is that part of the air duct is cut out and, after installing the unit, glued into place. The method is quite dubious. However, it has clear advantages:

  • standard pipes and device are used;
  • no need to disassemble the brake pedal and remove the metal plate.

Shortening the fittings

Another method that theoretically can be used when it is necessary to replace the radiator of a Kalina stove without removing the panel. The method is that the fittings are shortened until it becomes possible to remove and replace the radiator. Next, longer hoses (from a different type of stove, for example, 2108) can be put on shortened fittings directly inside the car. The method is quite interesting, however, it is used extremely rarely in practice.

Conclusion

Replacing a Lada Kalina heater radiator is a complicated procedure. There are many ways, it’s hard to say which is better. The choice is yours. The only thing I would like to remind you is, do not forget to carefully put all the parts away during dismantling. This simple procedure will help you avoid problems with their subsequent installation. Eliminating the consequences of incorrect installation of any part can take even longer than the repair itself.

Perhaps you know how to change the stove radiator in some other way? Share this useful information and your experience with readers in the comments.

See you soon and good luck on the roads!

It is known that the radiator of the Lada Kalina-2 stove is in separate block, called the “heater block”. To replace the radiator, you need to remove the heater unit assembly, and to do this, dismantle the dashboard. The radiator itself, which we are talking about, fits in the palm of your hand, but to get to it, you need to perform a huge set of dismantling operations. Any action does not require special tools, but the number of actions listed below can be called too large. The first step, of course, is to turn off negative terminal of the battery, and then remove various blocks and assemblies.

Preparing for replacement

Any part from the cooling system cannot be removed just like that. First you need to drain the antifreeze, and... And now - the most unpleasant thing. It will not be possible to remove the dashboard unless you get rid of the refrigerant that fills the climate system circuit. The refrigerant is unloaded in accordance with the operating instructions.

Let's start dismantling. First, unscrew the metric screws “2” using a spanner. on 10. These screws secure the air conditioner valve “1”. Then, flat key on 10 Unscrew the heater mounting nut “7”. To loosen the clamps “4” and “6” holding the radiator hoses, use a spanner. at 8. The hoses are carefully pulled towards themselves. At the final stage, unscrew the screws with a Phillips head (marked as “1”), after first removing the cabin filter.

Before dismantling, ask yourself again whether there is currently liquid in the engine CO or in the air conditioner.

How to remove the dashboard

Before replacing the radiator of the Kalina-2 stove, you need to remove the heater unit. The latter, in turn, is located behind the dashboard. We have already looked at . But in this case this will not be enough. The unit called “dashboard” needs to be dismantled as an assembly, but there are no other options.

The center tunnel cover will get in the way. It is pre-dismantled:

  1. Unscrew the three screws securing the handbrake cover and remove the cover;
  2. Dismantle the manual transmission lever. For a car with an automatic transmission, remove the plastic cover, unscrew the screw securing the handle, and disconnect the contact connector. To bend the rivets, use a flathead screwdriver;
  3. Unscrew the screw securing the tunnel cover, located near the handbrake bracket;
  4. Unscrew the side fastening screws (2 on each side). Now, the cover can be easily removed.

If no difficulties arise, dismantle the bracket (the handbrake microphone is attached to it). Simply, unscrew the screw head with a 13 key. Next we show a photo where all the actions are displayed.

Step by step, do everything as indicated. Then, the dashboard can be “pushed” toward you:

  1. Bolts “2” securing the stand on both sides are unscrewed with a 13mm wrench. Nut “3” securing the ground wire must also be unscrewed;
  2. There is an air duct mounting nut under the front seats. Using a 10mm wrench, unscrew it to remove the air duct;
  3. In fact, there is a separate wiring harness that goes to ground. It is held in place by nut “1”, which is unscrewed (see figure below);
  4. The headlight range control assembly needs to be disconnected. Remove the control knob from the dashboard and unscrew the “black” nut (you need a wrench at 21);
  5. The “dashboard” assembly is attached to the pedal block with screws “1”. Unscrew them.

The dashboard has pads on each side. They are removed to unscrew two mounting screws (a 13mm wrench will do). Then, the assembly is pulled out towards itself, having previously disconnected the connectors with the wires.

The last operation can be called “dismantling the dashboard assembly.” And they do it only with an assistant.

We take out the heater block

Now, pay attention to the first drawing. The heater block is secured with nut “1” to the body, and nut “7” presses it against the dashboard. We have already unscrewed the 7th nut, which cannot be said about nuts “1” (there are actually two of them). So, unscrew all the nuts and pull the heater unit into the cabin.

At the last step, all that remains is to unscrew the screws “1” and remove the cover “2” from the heater unit. After this, you will have access to the heater radiator, which will be easy to pull out of the block. Congratulations! A lot of work was done, but as you can see, the game was worth the candle. However, we talk about replacing and selecting candles.

A part such as the radiator of the Kalina-2 stove is not very expensive, but they require twice as much to replace it. Still, sometimes it is wiser to turn to the services of professionals. There is no need to overestimate your strength. Eliminating the consequences of illiterate repairs will be even more expensive.

The question “why did VAZ engineers make everything so complicated” will be left unanswered. The Grant, as you know, uses a unit of a similar design, the same as discussed here. But the Lada Granta is the best-selling Russian car, which is purchased by thousands of car owners per month.
