Gearbox: 1 - right wheel drive flange; 2 - clutch housing; 3 - input shaft; 4 - gearbox shift mechanism; 5 - clamp for adjusting the gearbox control drive; 6 - gearbox housing; 7 - light switch reverse; 8 - back cover; 9 - breather; 10 - left wheel drive flange; 11 - drain plug.
Gearbox - mechanical, two-shaft, with five gears forward travel and one - reverse, with synchronizers in all forward gears. The gearbox is structurally combined with the differential and final drive.
The gearbox serves to change the torque on the drive wheels and vehicle speed over a wide range, providing the ability to move in reverse, as well as to disconnect the engine from the transmission when the engine is running at Idling. The gearbox housing consists of three parts: the clutch housing, the gearbox housing, cast aluminum alloy and the rear stamped steel cover.
Gearbox shift mechanism: 1 - gear selection lever; 2 - cracker; 3 - gear lever; 4 - gear selector lock.
The drive gears for third, fourth and fifth gears are installed on the input shaft. All drive gears are in constant mesh with the corresponding driven gears of the forward gears.
Reverse gears are spur gears. The synchronizer for engaging the third and fourth gears is installed on the input shaft, and the synchronizer for engaging the first and second gears is installed on the secondary shaft.
The transmission cables are attached to a plastic bracket mounted on the transmission.
On the secondary shaft there are driven gears and a drive gear of the main gear, made integral with the shaft. The drive gears of the third and fourth gears and the driven gears of the first and second gears have an additional spur gear, to which the synchronizer sliding clutch is connected when the gear is engaged. The front bearings of the primary and secondary shafts are roller, the rear bearings are ball. Roller bearings support large radial loads, ball bearings support both radial and axial loads, arising in the meshing of a pair of helical gears.
Differential - conical, two-satellite. The main drive driven gear is bolted to the differential box flange. The differential box contains two satellites and two side gears. The satellites are installed on an axle fixed in the differential box. The side gears are connected by screws to the flanges of the wheel drives. Seals work along the cylindrical surfaces of the flanges, pressed into the sockets of the clutch housing and gearbox.
A breather is installed on the gearshift mechanism housing, connecting the gearbox cavity to the atmosphere. It is necessary to monitor the condition of the breather, since its clogging can lead to an increase in pressure in the gearbox housing when it heats up, which will cause oil to leak through the seals.
The gearbox control drive consists of a control mechanism installed inside the vehicle on the floor tunnel and a gear shift mechanism mounted on the box, which are connected by two cables.
The gear selection cable is connected to the shift mechanism lever and provides it with rotational movement. The gear selector lever fits into the groove of the gear lever. When selecting a gear, the selector lever moves the gear lever, positioning the gear selector in the slot of the corresponding fork. Once a gear has been selected, the shift cable rotates the lever to engage the desired gear.
Gearbox control mechanism: 1 - gear selection cable; 2 - gear shift cable; 3 - gearbox control mechanism.
Gearbox cable ends: 1 - gear shift cable end; 2 - tip of the gear selection cable.
The shift cable and gear selection cable are not interchangeable. Shift and gear selection cables are adjustable in length by moving the tips along the turns of the cables. At the factory, 2 liters are poured into the gearbox transmission oil, the replacement of which is not required during the entire service life. To check the oil level in the gearbox housing, there is a control hole closed with a screw plug. Through this hole you can add oil to the box if the level drops.
Control (filler) hole in the gearbox.
The gearbox is a complex assembly that requires experience and special tools to repair. Therefore, gearbox repairs should be performed in a specialized technical center that has both necessary equipment, and spare parts. To reduce repair costs, the gearbox can be removed and installed on the car yourself. If the gearbox is seriously damaged or worn out, it is advisable to replace it entirely.
For cars Volkswagen Polo The sedan is equipped with either a five-speed manual transmission mod. 021 or six-speed automatic transmission mod. 09G.
The manual transmission is made using a two-shaft design with synchronized gears. The gearbox and final drive with differential have a common housing. Clutch housing 11 is attached to the front part of the gearbox housing. To the rear of the crankcase

gearbox, a stamped steel cover is installed 1.
On the input shaft 12 there are drive gears I and II gears and reverse gears, made integral with the input shaft, and drive gears III,
IV and V gears rotate freely on needle bearings.
The secondary shaft 18 is made together with the drive gear of the main gear; in addition, the driven gears of 1st and 2nd gears are installed on the shaft, freely rotating on plain bearings. Driven gears III,
IV and V gears and reverse gears are mounted on splines.
Forward gears are engaged by axial movement of the clutches of two synchronizers HI and III-IV gears installed on the secondary and primary shafts, respectively, as well as the synchronizer clutch of V gear installed on the primary shaft. The reverse gear is engaged by engaging the reverse intermediate gear 4 with the driven gear
The gear representing the secondary shaft. The gear shift mechanism is located inside the gearbox housing.
There are two mechanism levers on the outside: the shift lever and the gear selector lever.
Manual transmission control drive: 1 - gear shift lever counterweight; 2 - gear shift lever; 3 - gear selection lever; 4 - gear shift cable; 5 - gear selection cable; b - thermal screen; 7 - gear shift lever; 8 - ball joint; 9 - gearbox control lever
The control drive for a manual transmission consists of a rocker 7 of the gear shift lever 9 with a ball joint 8 installed on the base of the body, two cables for shifting 4 and selecting 5 gears, as well as a mechanism located in the gearbox housing. To ensure clear gear engagement, the gear shift lever 2 of the shift mechanism is made integral with a massive counterweight 1. The cables are protected from heating by thermal radiation of the exhaust system by a thermal shield 6 installed on the base of the body. The gear selection and shift cables are structurally different from each other and are not interchangeable.
The main gear is made in the form of a pair of cylindrical gears, selected for noise. Torque is transmitted from the main drive driven gear to the differential and then to the front wheel drives.
The differential is conical, four-satellite. The tightness of the connection between the vortex joints of the front wheel drives and the differential gears is ensured by oil seals.
The automatic transmission is configured according to a traditional planetary design with clutch braking and is connected to the engine crankshaft through a torque converter. Electronic system automatic transmission control constantly monitors vehicle speed and engine load, eliminates driver errors, preventing him from switching to a higher gear when low speed movement to avoid overloading the engine, or downshifting at too high a speed, which eliminates the possibility of exceeding the maximum permissible speed crankshaft engine. When the vehicle speed decreases, gears are automatically switched to lower ones without driver intervention. When the car comes to a complete stop, 1st gear is automatically engaged.
The automatic transmission control algorithm is described in detail in “Vehicle Design”
The automatic transmission consists of a torque converter, a pump, a planetary gearbox, multi-disc clutches, multi-disc brakes and a valve block.
The torque converter plays the role of a clutch and serves to smoothly connect the engine and gearbox mechanism and increase torque when the car starts to move. The torque converter housing is connected to the engine crankshaft through the drive disk and rotates constantly while the engine is running. The internal cavity of the torque converter is filled with working fluid for automatic transmissions. The engine rotates the torque converter and drives the pump wheel, which creates flows of working fluid in the direction of the turbine wheel. The latter begins to rotate due to the flow of working fluid created by the pump wheel. When there is a large difference in the rotation speeds of the turbine and pump wheels, the reactor changes the direction of fluid flow, increasing the torque. As the speed difference decreases it becomes unnecessary and is therefore mounted on the overrunning clutch.
The hydraulic control system for the automatic transmission includes a pump, a pressure regulator, and a slide valve for selecting the automatic transmission range. auxiliary valves (solenoids), clutches and brakes. The pump, installed in the front of the transmission housing, creates pressure and supplies working fluid to all systems in the transmission.
Planetary gear sets correspond to the gear set in a manual transmission and serve to change the gear ratio in automatic transmission when changing gears.
The planetary gearbox of the Ravinier system is a gear train with external and internal gear engagements, which provides various ways of connecting its elements to obtain different gear ratios.
Band brakes serve to temporarily lock the elements of the corresponding planetary gear onto the housing automatic transmission transmission
The automatic transmission control drive is a cable type, designed on the same principle as the manual transmission control drive, but differs from it in the number and design of parts. The slide 4 (Fig. 6.8) of the automatic transmission selector is installed in the same place on the floor tunnel 3 as the manual transmission control lever, and is connected to the control unit on the gearbox 7 by cable 1.
The design of the automatic transmission differential is completely similar to the manual transmission differential.
Automatic transmission: 1 - main gear housing; 2 - working fluid heat exchanger; 3 - left suspension support bracket power unit; 4 - selector position sensor; 5 - torque converter casing; b - torque converter
Automatic transmission control drive: 1 - transmission control cable; 2 - handle of the gear selector lever; 3 - floor tunnel; 4 - gear selector link; 5 - gear selector cover; b - cable holders; 7 - gearbox
Repairing a gearbox, especially an automatic one, requires a large set of special tools and appropriate training for the operator, so this section only covers removing and installing the gearbox, replacing its seals, and repairing the drive. If necessary, have the gearbox repaired by a specialized service center.
For Volkswagen Polo 2010 ( Russian assembly) five-speed manual transmissions were installed with the letter code: LGQ.LNR.LVE.MAB.MAH.NVS.MFX.MGZ. Main couple gearbox was installed with gear ratio 58/16, 67/16, 66/17, 68/15, 64/14. Original manual transmission numbers: No. 02T300057Q. No. 02T300057QX. No. 02T300058C. No. 02T300058CX. No. 02T300020C. No. 02T300020CX. No. 02T300049M. No. 02T300020Q. No. 02T300049M. No. 02T300020R. No. 02T300020RX. No. 02T300020S. No. 02T300020SX. Radial bearing with original number No. 02Т311206н. Very often the 1st-2nd gear clutch with No. 02T311239C fails. The 4th and 5th gear gears are long, this is better than the manual transmission found on the Skoda Fabia. Original numbers of 4th gear: No. 02T311351E. No. 02T311351AA. No. 02T311351F. No. 02T311145P. No. 02T311145AJ. No. 02T311145R. Original numbers of 5th gear: No. 02T311158N. No. 02T311158P.
