VAZ 2114 in camouflage film. Do-it-yourself camouflage on a car: simple technology and excellent results

Recently, camouflage car painting has become popular. Perhaps there will even be fashion for it in the 2011 season, it will replace fashion with .
Today we have a selection of options for camouflage colors (painting) of a car.

Let's look at what types of camouflage are used. Let's look at examples of successful and unsuccessful paint jobs, a couple of bonuses, and my recommendation for camouflage paint jobs. Beware, there are a lot of photos, letters and useful information

The problem of camouflage on a car

The main problem with camouflage on a car is the scale and intensity of the pattern. This problem comes from the opposite problem. In life, among the military or hunters, camouflage is needed to camouflage a car. For tuning camouflage you just need to show off, so what can we hide?
This is where the understanding comes that the intensity and scale must be selected practically empirically.

Example. Look at the two items in camouflage

Different scales on the face, not only on the face. Therefore, there is no ready-made solution for car scale. You'll have to make mock-ups on the computer and see what's better and what's worse.
Actually, this material will be of help - you can look at ready-made solutions and evaluate them.

How to apply camouflage

I'm not sure that a regular airbrush can paint camouflage. Newfangled vinyl comes to the rescue here. Maybe the best solution is a film with a digital pattern that is used to cover the car. We applied the design to the desired film, covered the car and hooray.
Fortunately, nowadays only in very lazy cities there are no offices that glue vinyl to cars. And it’s not that difficult to do it yourself.

Forest camouflage on the car

A classic, as they say. Variants of forest military camouflage can be different from NATO woodland to the colors of the Soviet army.
Look how well made the Porsche is, it’s also matte.

Slightly different version. The matte shade works as a plus again!

Here's an example of a bad coloring. What I said about the work of the airbrush. A man of art and a military man can coexist in the same head only if the ensign receives a transfusion of the artist’s blood and then the military man will win.

Smartik was also painted without much understanding; overall it turned out well, but the gloss spoils the look.

Here's a matte forest camouflage for comparison. The drawing will be simpler, but the matte one will pull it out again.

It seems to me that forest camouflage will be suitable for a very limited number of vehicles. My advice is that if your car has a nice body kit, DO NOT use the woodland camouflage color scheme. And vice versa - this is a good solution for a stock appearance.

Digital camouflage

The famous digital, the dream of technological militarists.
Looks really cool on the car. And in different shades, for example desert, like this Lamborghini

Also notice how well digital camo combines with other colors and patterns.

Here, for example, is the coloring of a drift car.

And the dual body color and lettering and carbon fiber fit perfectly into this digital camouflage.

It’s so good that the Che Drift team cobbled together this idea in a seamless form, it’s not for nothing that the revolutionaries are Chegevars, what’s in common means no one’s.
They turned out beautifully too

Digital camouflage is a very good solution for a non-standard body and color combination. I recommend. Just don't take this tired combination. Use other colors.

Desert camouflage

Desert classic. Fetish of Arabs and Afghan veterans.

Both the scale and color of the desert camouflage on this Porsche sedan are chosen very well. It really looks great, despite the fact that the car is initially terrible in appearance - the camouflage hid all the horrors.

But here is an easier option, also neat and tasteful. Audi A3

Please note that the creators of this car image took a light shade + matte and it turned out great. Despite the camouflage, the body kit and body contours are clearly visible.

Well, this is a harsh classic of the genre. Lamborghini military :)

I present these photos purely to show how, due to the scale of camouflage, you can successfully emphasize the brutality and chopped shapes of the body.

Winter camouflage

May be good decision for white and simply light-colored bodywork.
Look how great the camouflage paint job was on this Ferrari!

But here is a slightly different combination, on Evolution

The scale is different, but it also turned out well - it was possible to disguise the disproportionately elongated middle-rear part of the car. Even the thick “eighth” bumper looks quite tolerable in this camouflage

Another lambo. Another scale. Again, the chopped shapes were emphasized with successful large camouflage spots.

Here are again examples of “designer” camouflage that frankly didn’t work out. A vulgar and incomprehensible primitive drawing. And this, by the way, is the official drawing from Volvo designers!

Subara is also unsuccessful. Too much intensity and too light.

Hunting camouflage

A wonderful direction in camouflage is civilian, hunting. Nothing in common with the military style in its idea. It looks fresh and pleasant. This is how funny they made the Prius. Like the whole thing is so eco-friendly, an electric car and a tweedledee

But truly hunting camouflage will look great on a jeep.
Even I, who consider it a disease, quite like this look on jeeps.

Moreover, both the standard and modified jeep look really good. Because everything is in its place - a jeep belongs in the forest, its color is hunting.

and now, before the most interesting part, some bonus pictures.

These are the brutal additions that can be added to a camouflage color scheme:

By the way, there is also a very simple and elegant solution for military style - just a matte dark green body color + antennas. And immediately an association with military equipment.

And this is how you can make the interior of a jeep with hunting camouflage. In addition to style, it is also very practical.

Well, now it’s interesting.

Fashionable camouflage colors

6th style of camouflage painting - hi-tech camouflage or UFO camouflage. Look at the possible colors

And you can choose many such color combinations. Feel free to open Google, type ufo camo there and look for inspiration. Combine bright, acidic colors.
The car will look bright and unusual. In Russia there are still very, very few such colors, almost none.

Every car owner wants his car to stand out from others. Vehicle, and the main way to stand out has always been and remains external tuning car body. Recently, tuning for camouflage has become increasingly popular in this matter, although it has always been popular among fans of hunting and fishing. But whatever the reason for the popularity of camouflage on cars, today we are only interested in the question of how to make camouflage on a car without the help of specialists. We talk about this below.

Types of camouflage and methods of applying it to a car

To “dress” your car in camouflage, you can simply contact service center and pick up your transformed car in a few days. But this option is not entirely profitable financially, so it’s worth at least trying to make camouflage on a car with your own hands. And before you start painting, it would be useful to familiarize yourself with the types of camouflage, among which you can choose the option for yourself.

Among all existing types of camouflage today there are four main ones:

It involves the use of a white background, on which spots of gray and black colors with pointed corners are applied. This type is also called urban camouflage.

Mostly only sandy shades are used - yellow, brown and gray for contrast. For this reason, this type of camouflage is also called sand.

Making such a camouflage pattern at home is the most difficult, but only if you do not resort to using vinyl film on which such a pattern is already applied. In this case, a variety of color combinations can be used and even repeat all the types described above. The peculiarity of digital camouflage lies in the shape of color spots, which look like a greatly enlarged digital pattern consisting of a large number of squares.

Forest or military camouflage- This is simply an imitation of protective military colors, which can be modified in different ways depending on your wishes.

What tools are needed to create camouflage on a car with your own hands?

Painting a car in camouflage cannot be done without prior preparation. necessary tools and materials, the set of which will change depending on exactly how you decide to do the work.

What tools can you use to make camouflage without a stencil?

If you decide on this method of applying camouflage, it means that this is not the first time you will have to work with paint and its application on a car, since working without a stencil is actually very difficult. To do this you will have to use:

A huge amount of old newspapers or other paper (for example, you can tear up your old student notes).

A large supply of masking tape of different thicknesses (5 rolls of narrow and the same number of wide).

Clean and dry flannel rags.

About 200 g of gasoline.

500 g paint thinner.

A special varnish for application to the car body (it can have a glossy or matte effect, so it’s up to you to choose).

Halogen lamp 1 kW.

Construction spatula (it is most convenient to work with a tool whose width is 70 mm).

Auto enamel. It is often sold in pressurized cans, which is how it should be taken. In order to cover the entire car body with it, you will need about 4 cans of each color.

Tools for painting cars in camouflage using a stencil

For this method of applying camouflage, you will first of all need to decide in advance on the type of pattern and the size of the color spots on the camouflage. After this, prepare vinyl films or very thick cardboard from which you can cut a stencil. But besides this, all the same tools will be useful to you in your work as when creating camouflage without a stencil.

Car wrapping with vinyl film camouflage

This is the easiest job of applying camouflage, since it involves the presence of a vinyl film of the required color and gluing it to the car body. To do this, in addition to the film, you also need to prepare:

A sharp knife for trimming the edges of the film.

A special spray that needs to be used to treat the film during gluing.

Rubber and felt squeegees, which are useful for leveling the film and removing air from under it.

Construction hairdryer.

Sealant for processing film edges.

Features of preparing a car for painting

To carry out painting, you need to prepare a garage or any other place convenient for you under a canopy, where there would also be reliable ventilation (when working with vinyl, this issue will not be so acute). The garage needs to be thoroughly cleaned and, preferably, walked with a wet cloth to remove all dust. After this, you should also take care of the car:

1 . Using water, completely remove all dirt from the surface of the body.

2. Give the car time to dry and remove all elements that may be splashed with paint (if you do not want to dismantle them, they can be covered with tape or film).

3. Degrease the body surface by wiping it with a rag soaked in gasoline. Please note that after this procedure there should be no lint left on the surface of the body.

If during the preparation of the body you notice swelling of the old paintwork, before applying a new layer of paint it must be removed with a spatula, having previously been heated with a lamp.

What is the process of applying paint to a car when creating camouflage?

So, how to paint a car camouflage with your own hands? The entire process of performing the work will differ significantly, depending on the chosen method of creating camouflage. We will analyze each of these methods separately.

Painting a car in camouflage without a stencil

This method of painting takes quite a long time and at the same time it greatly limits us in choosing a design, since without a stencil it is very difficult to apply complex shapes. In general, the procedure for creating camouflage on a car is as follows:

1. Using the narrowest masking tape, we create the shape of the future pattern on the surface of the body. Try not to bend the tape, otherwise paint will seep under it and ruin the integrity of your design.

2. Place newspapers around the spots you created so that the paint does not fly beyond the outlined boundaries. It is better to secure newspapers with wide tape.

3. We apply the most first dark color from the range of colors you have chosen. After drying, cover it with another layer so that the color is more saturated and the paint layer is more reliable.

4. When spots of the same color are completely dry, the tape and newspapers must be removed and new spots formed. Please note that the second color should overlap slightly with the first.

5. Apply the second color also in two layers. There is no need to rush; be sure to wait until all layers are completely dry. Apply the lightest layer of paint last.

6. Finally, we remove all remnants of masking tape and newspapers that were glued to the body and inspect our work. If during application of paint it gets into the “wrong place”, it should be removed using a regular solvent.

7. We cover the entire body with a special automotive varnish to make the paint uniform. To do this, do not forget to add a special fixative and solvent to the varnish, using the proportions specified in the instructions. The varnish also needs to be applied in several layers.

How to make camouflage on a car with a stencil?

The principle of applying paint in this case remains the same as without a stencil. The only difference is that you don’t have to bother with tape and newspapers - you simply glue a stencil to the desired places and fill the hole with paint.

The only disadvantage of this method of creating camouflage is that all the spots on the car are the same in size. If you want “diversity,” you will have to spend a lot of time cutting out stencils. But if you want to get an excellent result and a truly unique body color, this problem will not be an obstacle for you.

How to make camouflage vinyl on a car?

Covering a car with camouflage film is probably the easiest way to not only transform appearance your car, but also cover its body with a protective layer of film. It is applied as follows:

1. First, try your film on the car body and make marks on it using masking tape where exactly you need to cut. But before you start cutting, keep in mind that on uneven and curved areas you will need a little more film. It is better to cut off the remaining parts after the sticker has been applied.

2. Using a special spray, we treat the adhesive surface of the film and apply it to the surface of the car body. At this stage, the location of the vinyl film can still be adjusted and leveled.

3. Take a rubber squeegee and smooth out the film. Try to make sure that not a single air bubble remains under it.

4. To make the film even better and stick to the body, run a hair dryer over its surface.

Important! Do not overdo it with a hair dryer, as you risk damaging the integrity of the film with too much heat.

5. Particular attention should be paid to the bend areas. Try to ensure that the film is perfectly leveled, which can only be done with additional heating.

6. Run a felt squeegee over the surface of the film to smooth it completely. If necessary, reheat with a hairdryer.

7. Cut off the protruding edges of the film with a knife and treat all edges with sealant so that the film does not peel off over time.

Please note that after applying the film to the body, the car should be left in the garage for at least 12 hours. Only after this can the pasting process be considered complete, but even taking this into account, it is not recommended to wash the car for another week.

Advantages of each type of camouflage

If you cannot finally decide what type of camouflage to apply to your car, here is advantages each of the above:

Ideal not only for camouflaging a car in winter, when, mixed with snow, dirt turns the landscape white-gray-black. In summer, in nature, such a car will, in principle, not provide any camouflage, but in the city it will become an excellent urban attribute. But at the same time, dirt is practically invisible on the surface of such a car, because, drying on the body, it will become part of the tuning.

It is considered to be the most modern, preferred by the younger generation. It has lost its purpose of camouflage and is used exclusively as decorative.

These colors are mainly used by those who know first-hand what the desert is like to paint their cars. Desert camouflage is more suitable for the autumn period, although in summer and spring it will also provide excellent camouflage.

Well done forest camouflage differs not only in that it provides good camouflage in the forest, but also makes the car look respectable in a military way. In fact, this is the brightest camouflage option.

It is also worth mentioning vinyl film, which can combine all of the listed types of camouflage on a car. But, in addition to an attractive appearance, with its use you get:

Additional protection of the body from unexpected damage, and in some cases even from dents.

Under the vinyl film the original will be reliably preserved paintwork car. If you wish, in a couple of years you can remove the vinyl and drive your car again without camouflage.

This car coating is quite durable, especially if you take into account all the operating rules.

The ability to transform the appearance of your car without turning to specialists for help.

In general, I would like to note that no matter what car color option you choose, if you have the required amount of time and sufficient desire, painting any vehicle can be done at home. Moreover, the financial costs in this case will be minimal.

Today, such a method of car tuning as painting the body in camouflage is becoming increasingly in demand. Below in this article we will tell you in detail how to make camouflage on a car with your own hands.

Materials and tools

To implement the painting process for creating camouflage with your own hands, you should acquire and prepare the following set of tools and materials:

Car preparation

The best time to paint a car body is summer, since warm weather and lack of humidity are optimal conditions for various painting works.

You can paint your car camouflage yourself in the garage, but it is better to do it in a perfectly clean and spacious box. It is important that there are no unfavorable factors in the room, especially dust.

Preparatory work begins with carefully gluing all unpainted areas, and after that you can begin painting work. The following parts need to be completely covered:

  • headlights;
  • door frames;
  • glass

If paint gets on these areas during work, carefully remove it with a solvent. After this, degrease the surface of the body with a lint-free cloth previously soaked in gasoline.

Camouflage using film

When performing this process, it is convenient to use vinyl film. Of course, the overall price of this method will not change much, but the process will go faster. This is done as follows:

  1. Preliminary cutting of the film into large fragments. You need to make holes in them that will become stains in the future.
  2. Preliminary preparation of vinyl sheeting. It is needed by unique technology stick on the car and on those areas that remain uncovered.
  3. This procedure is repeated with brown and green. The stencil film, which is designed to create brown spots, is glued so that it covers all the previously created black spots. As for the green color, the stains are applied overlapping the black and brown ones.
  4. After the body is completely painted, all layers of film are removed without exception. If you don't like clear contours, refine the finish with an airbrush.
  5. The final stage of work is applying a layer of varnish.

We coat the body with varnish

Experts advise covering the body with a special varnish that creates a matte effect. This composition gives a velvety surface structure. It should be noted that the technology of applying varnish is no different from traditional varnishing.

Before application, the varnish is diluted with a solvent and a hardener is added to it. The quantity must be exactly as indicated in the instructions. Often these parameters change from layer to layer. For example, for the lower one, a composition of a more liquid consistency is used, characterized by high fluidity. For the last layer, a more concentrated composition is used - thicker.

The varnish is applied to the car body in 2-3 layers, and before applying each of them you need to pause so that the composition has time to dry. You can check with your hands: when your fingers stop sticking, apply the next layer.

The car will look even more original if you make larger spots. They should capture different body elements. A special protective screen is created along the contour of the spots, which can be made from newspapers. With its help, you can avoid painting unnecessary areas black.

You should start painting stains on the body after 2-3 hours, that is, after the previously applied stains have completely dried. To make the car’s camouflage as seamless as possible, the spots must be drawn overlapping. Applying two coats provides opaque and rich color. This applies to green color shades - it is the lightest. When drawing spots, you should move clockwise.

Let's sum it up

Painting a car body in camouflage camouflage with your own hands is in high demand, as this tuning option makes cars stand out from the general mass of vehicles on the roads. The main thing here is not to overdo it, since camouflage should not occupy more than half of the total area of the body.

Today, it is becoming increasingly popular in the field car tuning There is such a trend as painting a car in camouflage. In this article, using a UAZ as an example, we will show how you can “disguise” a car with your own hands.

Required materials and tools

  • aerosol paint in cans (4 cans of pigment each in black, brown and green), as well as vinyl film (depending on how the camouflage pattern will be applied to the car);
  • varnish with a matte effect;
  • polish with sponge;
  • solvent No. 469 (0.5 liters);
  • gasoline (200 ml);
  • special painting spatula (width 7 cm);
  • clean flannel rags;
  • 1 thousand watt halogen lamp;

  • as many old newspapers as possible;
  • paper masking tape (wide and narrow - 5 rolls each).
  • We prepare the car for painting with our own hands

    The best time to paint a car is summer, because warm weather and lack of humidity are the most optimal conditions for painting work. It is recommended to carry out it in a garage or a clean, spacious box. The main thing is to completely eliminate such a negative factor as dust, both in the air and on the surface, otherwise the camouflage pattern may not be as attractive as we would like.

    Cover unpainted surfaces with newspaper. Click on photo to enlarge.

    We begin preparing the car by covering all unpainted areas with old newspapers. We attach them with wide masking tape. We completely cover the optics, glass, door frames and rubber seals. If, after completing all the work, it turns out that the paint has got onto one of these parts, carefully treat the stained area with a solvent.

    Then, we degrease the surface of the car with a lint-free cloth soaked in gasoline. It is not recommended to use a solvent for these purposes, as it is too aggressive and can not only clean the surface, but also damage the factory paintwork.

    If you try to paint such an area with spray paint, the coating may become “fur coated”. If this does happen, take a halogen lamp in your hands, heat the surface, and then completely remove the paint with a spatula. If this is not done, when the paint is reapplied, the “fur coat” may appear again.

    “Disguise” the car with paints

    You can answer the question of how to use a “camouflage” color in different ways. Camouflage on the car body is drawn manually or using a stencil. The first method is, of course, preferable, because then the camouflage will look more natural. On the other hand, using a stencil will help save time. Let's take a closer look at creating a drawing with your own hands.

    The first paint color we have to work with is black. We will create the contours of the spots using narrow masking tape 2 cm wide. It fits well and allows you to create smoother lines on the body. In addition, paper masking tape can be easily removed from the body without damaging the paintwork. Please note Special attention Make sure that the tape fits tightly to the surface without forming folds or creases in which paint can accumulate, otherwise the outline may not turn out very neat.

    The car will look more original if the spots are made large, covering various elements of the body. A protective “screen” of newspapers is formed along the contour of the spots. He will not allow us to paint unnecessary areas black. After this, apply black spray paint to all the spots. You can start painting spots of a different color only after 3 hours, when the black spots are completely dry. Next we have to paint some areas on the car body brown and then green. We draw the spots in the same way as before.

    It is important that they overlap: this is the only way to make the camouflage seamless. We apply each paint color in two layers to ensure a deep, opaque color. This is especially true for green color, since it is the lightest. When drawing spots, we move from the starboard side clockwise, not forgetting about the roof and body pillars.

    View of the car after painting. Click on photo to enlarge.

    When the camouflage painting is completed and the pigment of all three colors has completely dried, we remove all the newspapers and tape and proceed to varnishing the car.

    We suggest applying a varnish with a matte effect to the body. Today, matte “soft touch” varnishes are very popular, which give the coating a velvety texture. The technique for working with such compositions is no different from conventional varnishing:

    Immediately before application, a solvent and hardener are added to the varnish in the proportions indicated on the packaging. Often these parameters change from layer to layer: for the bottom one - a more liquid and fluid composition, for the finishing one - thicker and more concentrated.

    However, if you do not have much experience in this area, it is better to strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions.

    The varnish is applied in 2 - 3 layers and be sure to leave each one for some time to dry. If, when you touch the coating, your fingers still stick, but no longer smear the varnish, you can begin applying the next layer.

    Create camouflage on a car using vinyl film

    When painting a car camouflage, it is very convenient to use vinyl film. Of course, this will not change the total cost of painting, but the process will go much faster. General scheme working with vinyl film is as follows:

  1. the film is cut in advance into large pieces, in which holes are made - these will be our spots.
  2. the prepared vinyl sheet is glued to the car, and those areas of the body that remain open are spray-painted black.
  3. We repeat the same procedure with brown and green. We glue the stencil film for brown spots so that it partially overlaps the black spots, and in the case of green, so that the spots overlap on the black and brown ones. Don't forget to thoroughly dry the pigment of each color!
  4. When the entire body of the car is painted, all layers of film are removed. If you are not satisfied with the clear contours of the spots, you can refine them with an airbrush.

Note to car owners

Painting a car in a “camouflage” color is original; it will definitely be noticeable from afar. However, it is important not to overdo it: camouflage should occupy no more than 50% of the total area of the car body, otherwise you risk being fined by the traffic police.
